I see Tmac was among our best. 23 disposals and 8 marks. What a legend, the ultimate pro- has got every last bit out of himself.

Just had his 250th game and gets dropped back to the Twos, no sulking, be easy to say drop the head and not give 💯 yet again, but he just keeps on keeping on. Will get to play next week again with Petty out.

Great role model to younger players coming through who might find themselves in and out of the first team.

they won't win a lot of games where they routinely get smashed around the contest

Been reading the thread and the subject of midfield depth seems to be a refrain.

Did we have a back up plan if Jack Steele said he wanted to stay at St Kilda? It seemed last-minute, and I feel as if he's not just handy at the moment but absolutely essential to our success.

The interesting thing is on paper our midfield doesn't look that great, but apart from the Essendon game and 1st quarter against Freo, they have been going well. Matched it with elite on ball groups in the Lions and Suns, and smashed Carlton in the second half who have plenty of contested ball winners. You are right Steele is the main man in there doing the grunt work (with support from Sparrow), seems you only need one really good inside mid if the rest of the pieces are functioning well.

Watched the first half. The replay has the commentators ahead of the play which makes it a very difficult watch.

Hendo: solid midfield game

TMc: got better as the half went on and a class above in the air

Cross: think he just played a half and a fair bit of midfield, tackled well, did some nice things. Didn’t seem worried by the thumb.

Kentfield: moments of quality including a big grab and a clever goal but just isn’t moving the same way he was before injury.

Matthews: has a red hot go, probably just needs to back his pace and elusive ability to get out to space that than going for miracle snaps or handballs.

White: he does some crazy early jumping at times but when he keeps it simple he looks promising. Better than expected given the long lay off.

Mentha: needs work defensively but starting to look more comfortable across half back

AMW: willing competitor but ball use was poor.

Adams: not the worst but not making a consistent impact on contests

That’s pretty much what the AFL team was doing and I must say I was concerned at the amount of freedom we were giving the opposition, meaning that they were able to move the ball to their forward line, practically unopposed. Despite beating the Lions, in my opinion, our midfield really needs to get its act together.

That will come because of a big shift from contested to run style, and I believe it will change again to more man-on-man football sometime in the near future. I saw a bit of that in the Cats v Dogs game where the Cats manned up in the forward line to stop the fullback from finding a loose man. Still not sure about Windsor in the centre, but we have to remember he is still a young man in football terms, and body-wise we still have some players like Lever, Petty, McDonald, Salem who still hang on to the ball for too long before disposing of it, which slows down play. Overall, I still like how they are going about it.

It's been remarkable. The Gold Coast performance was almost impossible to believe. We smashed them in the middle.
