You certainly know how to get a player to open up.

Especially about his private life.

You should talk to the club about you interviewing players for the club website .

Seriously.

( and paying $$$ ! )

I really don’t get them to open up though, but if they feel like talking I’m happy to listen.

It’s the young guys and in particular the young interstate guys who seem to wanna share things and I understand why.

I’m not special but there’s something I know I’m good at and that’s listening. It sounds silly to say that but listening is a dying art. It’s on the endangered species list. It’s a shame because it’s so valuable and important.

On the contrary SlartiSmartArze, Kalani actually loves a chat. Yes I talk a lot but he gives me a run for my money. Kolt, Luker, AMW and Ricky M among others similarly love to chat. And when I say chat I mean they talk, I listen. True story.

There’s this line from Fight Club…

“When people think you are dying, they really, really listen to you, instead of just waiting for their turn to speak.”

This should apply to everyone. Too many times people aren’t listening to each other coz they’re thinking about what they wanna say when it’s their turn to speak.

Training is at Casey Fields tomorrow and Friday. As per usual these are closed sessions. The boys have Thursday off. Saturday morning at 10:30am there’ll be a captain’s run at Gosch’s.

Tonight they’re at the soccer match being played at AAMI. Not compulsory, they just enjoy hanging out together.

I had the distinct displeasure of watching Essendon this week vs Norf

My goodness what a rabble of a club they are - if we lose to them in gather round like we have done before my head may explode

Like all seasons, lose to Essendon the season is a fail.

Thanks Slartz, my job would be easier if you and ‘Banger could drag your sorry arzes here. You know I’m not good at reporting which players are or aren’t here nor just reporting in general. 🤨

Now I’ve gotta face @Roost it far and his unreasonable demands on my own.

Sorry Ghosty - had to use up the last of the jet fuel. Will also miss Saturday's Captain's Run - your sole task is to spot the emergency....

So, not only wagging the captain’s run but setting me a task. Okaaaaay.

But it was a footy act, so I get a premiership medal.

Any chance you can go and watch the pies train and inflict some further footy acts/injuries?

I was actually going to watch them train yesterday during the break between our sessions but I realised I’d left my hazmat suit at home 🙃

I just got back to Gosch’s and the second group is out here already. All running laps.

Got back to Gosch's? That implies you left before the session was over. Who gave you permission to leave before the job is completed? Anyone would think you're a Carlton supporter.

NB: For the avoidance of any doubt it seems prudent given other comments in this thread to point out that this post is sarcasm. It might not be particularly witty, but let me re-state - it's an attempt at sarcasm.

Suggest you read the training times on the website and it will make you appreciate Ghosty even more.

Ghostwriter please keep up your great work. I appreciate all your reports, and really enjoy reading them.

I got prior written consent from @Roost it far though.

Incidentally, he doesn’t need to know the second session had already begun before I returned. In my defence, the second session started earlier than scheduled. But he’s a hard taskmaster is ol’ Rooster.

They do this by choice. They’re so dedicated. I bet Liv P was there. She’s determination personified, such an inspiration.

Thanks Ghosty, yes there is a difference between listening and hearing. Sadly, many today listen but don't hear and comprehend and understand (or even empathise). I think Radiohead has some advice about this: Stop Whispering

Keep hearing stories shared with you. They matter.

Anyone got a report on Riley Onley. Was hoping for something in the pre-season preview, but there was none. He is my smokey for next-gen mid-field gun..... so, any news?

Luckily you clarified your sarcasm as I was about to start calling you Champ!

Just so we’re in sync with this, you only get one written warning and you’ve had yours. I endured poor reporting in the past and have no intention of letting standards slip. I’d suggest you get @Kev and @Harvey Wallbanger back in line pretty soon.

Nowhere near it yet. Haven’t even noticed him in the Casey games I’ve watched

Still finding his feet - just 10 disposals in Round 1 against Footscray - seemed to play mainly on the wing....

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
