PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Gold Coast

I think I know who the mystery player is. Yesterday a certain player didn't participate in training at Casey, only ran laps.

Fritta is out for 6 weeks

Pays to read posts. Broken bone in his foot. Unsure if it’s the same foot he had troubles with last season. Terrible news either way

Thank you, no need to be rude. Sometimes posts don’t load once I’ve posted a reply so I missed seeing the comment on who it was.

Shocking news. Was going to say I just hope it’s not foot related 🤦‍♂️

And it’s his left foot 😢

Dang.. thats disappointing.

Has started the year well too.

That's terrible as a) Fritter has started incredibly well and b) foot problems, again!

Hoping for a speedy recovery!

We will need Melk/JVR/Checkers to step up a little more to cover him, and present/convert.

I really would love to see Kozzie back it up against Gold Coast. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but when he has an OUT OF THIS WORLD game, he usually goes missing the week after.

I'm hoping he can back it up with another great game (doesn't have to be of the same caliber against Carlton) but still a decent one.

Go Dees

Is the Fritsch thing official?

If so - [censored].

Just when he hits form. With games against Essendon and Richmond on the horizon, too.

Melksham presumably comes in but maybe Jeffo can hit some form at Casey and get a run?

Yes thats a good get in line with exposing the next generation resting them back to work on specific features of their game

Sorry about the multiple quote seems auto generated.

To hell with that- I have him at 150-1 for the Brownlow. Keep those OUT OF THIS WORLD games coming🤣

Kentfield over Jefferson please.

My prayer to the footy gods: play Melky this week and next. He’s on 248 games. His 250th would be vs Essendon, his old mob. We’ll smash ‘em and Melky will be BOG. Coming home from Adelaide would be chef’s kiss.

Highly unlikely Luker will play before at least one game at Casey. It’s not like this is a new development… Fritta did his foot vs Freo.

Fritsch is a big loss

Melksham wasn't moving freely in his last Casey game but he could be back

‘Initial scans have cleared Fritsch of any break’

good news need him back for the bummers

Yeah there’s certainly some validity to that. Every time he’s had his monster 5 or 6 goal games in the past, his next week produces 1 to 2 goals with less influence.

And his previous best career game against Sydney last year (5 goals 25 touches) he couldn’t get near it the following week V St Kilda in the Alice.

Major bummer about Fritta. However Melksham is a somewhat of a sufficient replacement. We need more from JVR and Mihocek who have kicked just 2 goals between them the last 2 games.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
