Speaking of kicking after winning a clearance, how many players in the AFL could kick a goal from the centre square uner pressute and of (barely) one step the way The Bison slotted that goal on Friday - wow.

Tholstrup and Kozzy kicked goals from the centre square too. Questionable 50m arc

Windsor will be fine once he learns some poise & steadiness. He gathers the ball at top pace and is able to sprint away at top pace

But the disposal often happens before he should be momentarily steadying

Windsor needs to realise that he's got more time than he thinks he has

Just looked a bit timid to be honest - fair bit of it upstairs I reckon

You should meet my great dane named Jerry (after Jerry Lee Lewis) - Great Balls of Fire.

I would rather not. Jerry sounds rather dangerous….

Thanks Macca that is roughly where I had us 2016-2017, but with the bonus of having 12 Premiership players still on the list, six 1st rounders being bedded in with another two up our sleeve next draft, if JT nails both those and our list stays healthy, who knows how quick we can rise.

Don't be surprised if we get hold of another first rounder in 2026 because the draft will be severely compromised in 2027 & 2028

We need to play the long game

How we get hold of another 1st rounder is anyone's guess but we quite often find a way

For instance, we started off with a 2nd rounder as our first pick in the 2025 draft

I don't reckon it's that ... he's not attuned to the pace of the game is my view. He's only played 36 games and needs another 30+ games under his belt

He's a bit rushed when he doesn't need to be. Happens to a lot of draftees

We judge them far too early a lot of the time. Also, Windsor has not been part of a team that shares the ball well

We'll know a lot more about our youngsters by the end of 2026 - 2028

Hopefully.

But it'll be interesting to see if Richmond can pressure our mids better.

Ball use under little pressure is always better.

Yep. In many ways Friday's game was not great in terms of giving our game plan and system a decent test, particularly our defensive system- even with little pressure our kicking was often poor yet they didn't hurt us at all on turnover.

With more pressure, we'll turn it over more and better teams will make us pay.

True - though neither were off one step.

Speaking of kicking goals, one other other changes I've noted accross the intra-club and practice matches is it appears players have been encouraged to have a ping at goals when in range rather than always look for a pass option.

Assuming that's the case, im a big fan of that change - of course if someone is free closer to goal and/or on a better amgle and the kick is not hard, the percentage play is a pass, but otherwise pin your ears back boys and have a shot.

Interesting tactic playing the 2 worst teams in the comp during preseason.

Hopefully for confidence building

They probably thought the same about playing us.

But it makes sense to play teams in a similar state to your own.

I think it’s got something to do with Relativity.

If he starts bouncing the ball as soon as he gets it, by the time it hits the ground, he has already ran 15m.

Thought he also looked a little red when he’s running away from you.

Maybe Trellativity??

More like momentum which is measured in juice newton seconds where the direction is towards our goals.

(Nap time)

… and made it look so easy! It’s an amazing feat and we’re lucky to have someone who can pull it off.

Incidentally, is “uner pressute” French for under pressure? Never knew you were a polyglot 😁

A certain Bailey from the Suns would be a nice Trac replacement... 😉

Hopefully our deathride of the Suns pays off and we get a top 10 pick from them to go with whatever we finish, should be enough if Humphrey B Bear wants to come home. I'd even offer our first round 27 pick we should get some picks back. Trading our pick one is no biggie considering we'll have access to some F/Ss.

Depends if the other player is free and in the open eg Kossie to his cousin, even though Latrelle fluffed it.

  1. skills - the game is now all about winning the turnover battle, and even a statistically small reduction in the number of turnovers and missed scoring opportunities has a significant impact on a team's chances of winning)

If this is the only thing we improve this year it will go a long way to getting us a higher ladder finish.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
