It wasn't all that long ago that Melbourne played the Kangaroos in Round 9 and lost by 1 point.

However, there will be a lot of differences in the make up of the Demons' side when it runs onto the field this Sunday.

The selected side for the game on the Thursday night was as follows:-

However, by the time match day came around, Brock McLean had been added to the list of emergencies and Melbourne played him in place of Matthew Bate who withdrew with a hamstring strain. Yze (groin) was also replaced in the selected side by Nathan Brown.

This game was the only MFC game in Melbourne I've missed this year.

For those that went, describe the last quarter and was it as shattering as the close Port, Dogs and Essendon games. I can recall us being about 35 points down early in the last quarter and then we were in front, with a blink of the eye.

I was at the game, and the result was not as shattering as the others. We were pathetic all day, except for a 15 minute burst when we played confident and flowing footy to kick 7 goals. We were inept for the first 3 quarters and 10 minutes and never deserved to win. That we managed to get so close was laughable, and the looks on the faces of the roos supporters was hilarious.

I had resigned myself to another loss well before 3 quarter time.

Now, the Essendon game is a different matter........

i flew down to melbfor that game , during the game was tense then getting towards the end it felt like looking up then , bang another close loss

I had an event in Sydney on the Sunday evening, so flew home for the game... qantas ensured that I missed the first half and got to listen on radio.... i finally arrived at the ground at the 15 minute mark of the third quarter very hungover and wondering what i was doing after watching the finish of the third...

i did however comment to my brother that i felt there was a sniff.. they had not put us away and we had actually started to get a bit of the ball....

they kicked the first of the last and well, thought that was game over....

we then produced arguably the football that has made us one of the good teams to watch at the G.. we went long and direct, we took chances and backed ourselves, we ran from defence and became brave....

the crowd was pretty loud and there was a thought of the impossible but our last minutes were disappointing and probably sum the season up!!

you walked away from this game with so many questions and wondering why did it take to the last quarter and how we do not play like that more often?

it was nearly the perfect end to a perfect weekend - the cricket rocks on concert was brilliant!!

That we managed to get so close was laughable, and the looks on the faces of the roos supporters was hilarious.

Never happy about losing but I walked away thinking the right team had won. Saw a Roos supporter friend on the way out and he looked like he had seen a ghost and hadn't enjoyed the win at all. It would be nice to give them a similar scare this week.
