Petty defence.

Petty is a premiership defender and not a forwards bootlace but delusional Goodwin thought otherwise!

Where’s White going to be? Reserves for a year?

White needs to build his body up before he's considered for seniors.

That’s fair. Hopefully he gets a couple games throughout the year and is a good look at the year after. He is rather tall so I’m not sure how fast he will put it on.

Kozzie and Trelly are blood relatives but it’s by no means easy to explain.

Trelly’s mum and Kozzie’s dad are first cousins. One of Kozzie’s aunts has children to one of Trelly’s dad’s cousins (Trelly’s second cousin). On Trelly’s dad’s side Kozzie is Trelly’s nephew and on Trelly’s mum’s side Koz and Trelly are second cousins.

That’s how Trelly explained it. He must’ve noticed I was battling to keep up so he said I should write it down, and I did. There was no way I’d remember it.

Trelly said Koz calls him “Uncle.” I said, “Really?” Trelly said “Yeah definitely, ask him.” So I did. Koz said yes he does call Trelly Uncle.

At this point I was confident I understood the whole thing but then Koz said “and I call Trelly’s dad Pop.” Once again I was back to the land of confusion. I said “So, Trelly’s dad is your granddad?” Koz said, “Nah I just like calling him Pop.” He was greatly amused by my confusion. Cheeky bugger

Trying to understand all that reminded me of the famous Abbott and Costello baseball schetch.

" The famous Abbott and Costello routine is called “Who’s on First?”. It’s a classic comedy sketch where Abbott tries to explain the names of baseball players to Costello, but the players’ names sound like questions and answers—leading to hilarious confusion."

Unknown at this stage. Reports on his (JV7) injury indicate he’ll remain on light duties until at least the end of the year. His chances for Round 1 will likely hinge on how he responds after the Christmas break and the level of fitness he can build before the season begins. Right now, he’s not running and is limited to bike work, and he’s presumably spending time in the gym on upper-body training.

It may sound heretical, but is a fit JV7 an absolute walk up start 2026? 😮

Just back from training and I was really impressed by Trelly again. I think he is a different type of player to Kossie. Kossie is the burst type player with, as we know, exceptional X factor and is more a small forward with patches in the midfield. He's the Bobby Hill, Charlie Cameron style of player.

I think Trelly is different, more in the mould of NWM. In the training drill he covers so much ground and is continually running. He will link up time and time again in them. He's very quick and evasive and at this point his skills are just good, not exceptional like Kossie. But he looks like he could play as a line breaker of HB, he could play through the midfield and he can clearly play forward. It will be a really interesting watch over the PS.

The other to continually impress is Jai Culley. He's going to be a very difficult match up because he's a very strong overhead mark for the position he plays. Midfield or wing? Do those positions exist under King the way they did under Goodwin? There really haven't been any match sims in the last few weeks to know as the players for the main have been in about 3 different groups all doing different things. We will start to get a better idea of where players sit in January. It's also interesting we have guys in rehab with concussion protocols which adds weight to the observation that training is much more physical under King than it was under Goody.

Thanks for that summation. Could be awesome additions. Makes this eternal optimist even more optimistic for 2026

Midfield balance is more important i think. Having Culley and Langford in the middle exposes us a little on the speed side of things. Having one of them on the wing / outside is probably more likely.

I think XL/Windsor with Steele, Langford is a better mix, with Kozzy, Viney (when fit), Rivers and Sparrow rotating through. Not rulling out Culley either, but i think he could be an absolute weapon on the wing. Think of that young Geelong fella (forget his name).

Maybe not Culley and Langford concurrently in the mid - could well alternate off the wing.

I’ve heard that sketch. And yes, the Pickett family tree is not unlike it.

Do we need to keep raking over the past? How about we stay in the present and look to the future. Besides, “delusional Goodwin” also had a steadfast belief in developing Jeffo but you never mention that.

The past is well and truely over , I will miss CO13 but we have a new coach .

The coach his dead. Long live the King!

Sorry. Next bit long live Charles the tird,

Incorrect, Goodwins development of jeffo was substandard, which Iv'e outlined in another post. Go find it and then get back to me with my errors!

Big thanks to Demonland, Ghostwriter, WayneWussell, Ditcha, PaulR, Startifastbart, Harvey Wallbanger, Fritta and Turner, all posters and special comments for another excellent training day thread yesterday. Sounded like a lot going on and appreciate the ongoing reports on our injured and rehab’rs.

Sorry, I have brain fog (my dear mum died yesterday). But what is HB? Half back?

... and yet "delusional" Goodwin coached us to our first premiership in 57 years, in a coaching period that also saw us win a VFL and AFLW premiership. I refer to it as Goodwin's perspicacious period!

I find your constant haranguing of our only living premiership coach a bit ludicrous PF Simon Goodwin had a Development team in charge of the younger players ( David Neitz Academy) who’s role was to strengthen and fast track our youngsters through the process to AFL, on the whole they were very successful, unfortunately some players take a lot longer or just can’t make the next step.

To constantly blame the Senior Coach for that failure is quite unusual, every year every team has to jettison 6-10 players that can’t make the grade, the coaching group have provide Mathew Jefferson extra time to find his way.

And if you go back to finals in 2022 we ran out of Forwards leading into the finals and Harrison Petty was thrown forward to provide a target, he has been used in this fill in role due to our lack of tall competent forwards, that is no longer the case and Petty can return to defense which is his best spot.

Also as mentioned by other posters it is time for us all to move forward with the New coaching team and Improved young playing group and look to 2026 and beyond, I believe there is a lot to look forward to.

Thank you, we're in shock. You can't choose the timing for these things. I never expected this at Christmas.

Very sorry to hear that Go Ds, wishing you and your family all the best only time can heal the loss.💕
