AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8

Featured Replies

Please if we take 7 & 8 to the trade table can we rule out Pickett. He is speculative and a worthy pick post 30, but not for our top 2 picks

Sister of Dan, the potatoe farmer from up that way?

I went to school at Gis Sec College with Emma and Steve Q and played tennis with Steve, so was just wondering. Not sure if they had a sibling Dan.

We have Windsor. That’s one of the biggest reasons.

Don't see how grlj interrupts anything to do with already having Windsor.

Respectfully.

If we don't take Grlj it's because we don't rate him highly enough

Bit like saying we wouldn't take Latrelle because we already have Kozzie!

Yep. you can never have to much talent. Imagine link up plays between Leb & Grjl

Xavier Taylor is still my wish list @ 7, if he was to somehow get through to us. Then happy to go with Grlj @ 8. Otherwise I’ll take the more likely Grlj / Dova combo no problem.

I’ve also come round to Sharps ability in the contest which is a position imo we will need to fill at some stage. But sounding like he doesn’t get past Bombers now.

King at a coterie lunch yesterday was asked what players we were looking to draft and he said we are targeting speed, good footy iq and ability to impact in the front half, not sure if that narrows down anything.

Exactly.

Grilj @ 7, Dovaston @ 8, get creative and try to live trade GC F1st for a crack at Pickett or failing that get Kozzie to whisper in his ear and poach him in a couple of years time.

Grlj & Pickett.

Cal. T said last week that we aren't interested in Grlj, hope he's wrong.

I think it's as simple as the mids expected to be available at our picks are all average so why take a B grade mid when we can take guys with a better chance of being B+ or A grade forwards while also filling a deficiency

If Grlj gets past our picks there's clearly a lot of uncertainty whether he'll translate to AFL level

It's good Grlj got invited to night 1 of the draft, as it suggests he might get picked up early, and maybe someone we want slides to us instead.

Me too. No brainers for his professed game style.

I think there is a real chance of us being involved in some live trades this year, i can see clubs making us live offers for one of our picks and i can also see us making clubs offers .

Cal Twomey's 2019 Phantom Form Guide: October update

AFL.com.au's draft guru Cal Twomey ranks the best young footy talent in the land

To be fair to Cal. The majority of players were picked around where he thought they would be.

I could be wrong but the only pick i would take dovaston at is pick 37

He is not a first round pick small forward

The only player i could see us trading up to pick 2 for would be CDT

2025 CDT and pickett

2019 Jackson and pickett

He absolutely is worth a 1st round pick.

And he will be snapped up in the first round because of how good he is, bookmark this.

As others have already alluded to I think we might be throwing out a few red herrings.

Twomey doesn't have a strong eye for junior talent. He has a strong ear for intel regarding junior talent.

He also doesn't have a strong eye for a decent haircut.

We may be picking the wrong S.A kids with our picks...give me B.O.B!

Twomey had Murphy Reid rated at pick 6 in his November form guide last year when no one else did, he ended up going pick 17 and won the rising star. Even the clubs got that one wrong. I’d say his eye is pretty good

Think you might be right. Spargs about the same size struggled to impact.

B.O.B looks alright

Reid was always considered a top 10 pick. He drifted late in preceedings.

You don't follow drafts, do you ?

Ah Hannibal/Trav20/Tweed Pig. Great to have you back, your passive aggressive approach to posting had been not here. And now it is here.

Cleary wasn’t by the clubs. Who are you following ?

It's not as simple as that.

Many clubs may have had him as a top 10 pick, but either didn't have a top 10 pick OR had a early top 10 pick and preferred someone else OR rated him top 10 but only had one pick in the top 10.

Throughout the year he was often picked in the late part of the top 10. Why do you think Twomey had him there ?

He also injured his ankle in the Coates League GF. And in that game he was caught and looked a bit slow, which I don't think helped him.

But all Twomey did and does is read the tea leaves from the intel he gets.

Nairn and Pickett. Funny part is we could likely trade 8 back and still get both of them. Anyway. In JT we trust.

Feels as if it’s gonna be 2/3 of Nairn, Farrow and Pickett. With Robey, Taylor and Cumming all to go beforehand (unfortunately).

Do you think we’re any chance of trading 7 or 8 back to take Pickett and Nairn with two later first round picks?

I know some will say it doesn’t matter where they go if we rate them, but surely we can find a way to take both with later picks given where they seem to be ranked
