Fully. Why Trac? His ball use is still horrid. Is that not something we would find in picks or Flanders if Trac left?Surely we wouldn’t lose a whole lot with a dude who has such poor ball use, but yeh he’s also a midfield beast.. I get your point too.Edit: Not to mention, he’s also played forward a lot, or was under Goody. That would have to be altered. Edited September 27, 2025Sep 27 by GawnOfTheDead

His best talent has always been winning the ball and using his power to burst out of stoppage.

Clarry is a ball winner, gets it out, and Viney too. We need to have other players who actually are the ball users. Langford is one for sure. Not sure who else really.

Lindsay and Langford are beautiful ball users

Langford looked like he had been playing for years. Two bloody brilliant picks, got to give the club that. You wonder how they do that after putting a broken bodied McAdam on a three year contract. Blows my mind.

September 27, 2025Sep 27 The 'inside bulls who feed it to the users' conception is a trap. The lesson of Terry Wallace's Tigers struck me deep - his 'types' became pigeon holes and the moment any cog in the machine wasn't in its exact place, the whole thing [censored] up.Neither Petracca nor Oliver nor Viney are excellent users outside of the clearance chaos, but we've seen the power that can come even from a 'clumsy' but direct and dominant set of clearances. Also worth noting that our big run to glory rode a wave where Petracca and Oliver both had significantly good form on their disposal efficiency - whether because the team systems worked or because they just had their eye in for that time, I won't say. But, putting it all together - Petracca is a powerful inside midfield extractor who also drives the ball forward effectively, whether or not it looks pretty every time. That is tactically invaluable for any team, and any coach.

September 27, 2025Sep 27 Just mimic the Clarkson/fagen game plan… no need reinvent the wheel. This is a proven formula to success.

Even if still effective next year what's to say next year's premier upgrades the strategy with a couple of tweaks that gets them ahead of the curve? While pre-seasons, bench rotations and the phasing out of drop kicks may be permanent for many more decades other things will change - even if spectators barely realise the tweaks.

The silly thing is if he conferred with Scott (and the other coaches) today (or next week ) what went wrong in the GF that both parties counterintuitively would have learnt a lot and gone into next just that little bit better. I guess this won't happen though.

Not too many tweaks

Not too many tweaksYes, but surely AFL will evolve again and just copying the Lions/Clarkson won't be enough. Surely in 20 years time the game have changed at some stage. While tactics wouldn't be the only thing considered I can't help but think that regularly/ yearly each club will see how their teams can play better and get an advantage on their rivals. I'll be very disappointed if King just follows Goody's or Fagan's game plan next year without even a little experimentation.
