Gab told me 2-3 weeks when I spoke with her at the game on Saturday. Hopefully the club estimate is playing it a little safe and she'll be back sooner then they are saying. ๐Ÿคž

Possibles for Saints game

In: Gall, Goldrick

Out: Taylor, Johnson

I'm guessing we'll need to keep Taylor for the height in the backline.

I thought Beasley was tracking for a mid season return. Ditto for Gillard. 9-10 weeks would see them done for the entire regular season.

As at 26 August 2025

Injury crisis with 8 players already out and 3 already ruled out for the season

5 of the 8 injuries are knee injuries which has been a very high occurrence in the womens game

https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/injury-updates

Dees might have to call up top up players soon - squad is 32 โ€ฆ less the 8 injured = 24 players โ€ฆ so we have 21 for this game v pies โ€ฆ plus the 3 emergencies (thatโ€™s the full list).

How good is this team to be sitting on top of the ladder with a % of 500+ with all these injuries.

An awesome group and such a delight to watch.

I have done some track watching. I wouldn't be surprised if Maddison Ibrahim will potentially come into the side and play in the back line. Maddison is a left-footer, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was there at training on Wednesday.

Maddison showed some promising signs with the 2nd practice match we played against Adelaide (At Sturts home ground).

Actually just 23. Jacinta Hose and Aimee Mackin were already on the LTI list. From the remaining 30, there are 7 unavailable this week:

Purcell (will now go LTI) - see above with the possibility of Ibrahim (or another) coming onto the list

Lampard

D Taylor

Colvin getting closer, which will be handy. Gillard is back running this week.

If we're lucky, some of these ranges will trend shorter than longer...

If only we could fly in A.Mackin to replace B. Think anyone would notice?

Also noticed that Pies' captain Ruby Schleicher is in concussion protocols, which is a big loss to them, great player.

Mackin's MCL was originally declared a grade 3 tear, which is at the bad end of the spectrum. It's now been re designated as a grade 2, but strangely still 10-12 weeks. Yesterday Josh Keily, the high performance manager, said she'd be seeing a specialist today and the timelines would be dependent on the consultation. Hopefully she'll be back well under the current official estimate. Same for Lampard - if it's not too bad four weeks should cover it.

And now Goldy's gone down. Labral tear in her shoulder. As I understand it the time frame for return would usually be in months. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Thatโ€™s 10 unavailable. I believe 2 โ€œtop up train onโ€ players are included in the emergencies for this weeks game.

Bloody hell

So, absolutely best case scenario, we get back Colvin, then Lampard and D.Taylor in a month or so...

I wonder what the deal with Goldrick is, still no timeline. It sounded season-ending originally, now they say their doing contact tests or something?

I'm a bit worried about Lampy, apparently over a week after injuring her calf they are still focusing on pain management. It's been reported it is a complex injury and they are seeking further guidance. So a simple calf tear it doesn't seem to be. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

That is looking terrible for our AFLW team, thatโ€™s about a third of our side, we lose any more itโ€™ll be season over after such a magnificent start. AFL need to increase the list size.๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿ‘Ž

It can't be good for training either, trying to test stuff out without the non-playing players as oppo.

I guess the funds aren't there for additional players. And for a fit list (if only we could be so lucky!), it's just more players sitting idle with no proper reserve competition during the season. I also get the sense that assistant coaches are already putting in a lot of voluntary time just to serve the current list size - players at other clubs report access to assistant coaches being limited.

Maybe lowering the number of injuries needed for replacements to come into effect would be another way of dealing with the issue, without so many of the resourcing impacts.

I assume Heath is no certainty to play this week, in addition to the 9 confirmed outs.

It's one thing to have a lot of injuries, but ours seem very focused on the midfield and half back line.

That's pretty tough to cover, and I thought we looked overly tall and slow against Collingwood as a result.

With the final round of the season about 9 weeks away, it's conceivable that we'll have Gillard, Lampard and Beasley back with a couple of weeks to find some form before finals, and with potential for Goldrick and Mackin to be in the mix.

We have a reasonable run for the next month or so, before some tougher games against Essendon, Sydney, and probably Brisbane too. If we can keep the good performances going and stay relatively injury free until then we could be right to make a run at it.
