Why has there been no attempt to fill the hole in front of Gunston? He always has a paddock in front of him

McDonald the only defender with the requisite closing speed + reach to stop Gunston today. I understand giving responsibility to the young KPDs but I genuinely feel for Tom and hope he gets a gig elsewhere next year if he wants one/is not renewed. Always the first defender to be blamed by our coaches when things go poorly.

Petracca should be embarrassed. His disposal is deplorable, he needs to be traded urgently

Tracc would just about be the worst kick in the side

He's terrible

You don't watch Oliver too often?

If any of Steven May's teammates played like Steven May today, Steven May would give them a public shellacking.

Um… whoever thought we were contending next year might have to rethink.

Buckley might be looking at this and wondering if it’s salvageable…

Our entire identity has fallen apart as a result of trying to adjust our game plan. Same amount of inside 50’s. 50 points behind.

We just don’t know what we value anymore as a team.

Any decent future coach looking at this is like "[censored] that", pea hearted efforts all day. Disgraceful effort.

New coach’s biggest mission is to win over Kozzy otherwise we’ll have problems, not convinced he’d even be here still if it weren’t for Goodwin

I think all of the potential 2026 coaches just took one step back

We are coach killers

Makes Goody look like a saint

We have no skills - WTF

The 1.4 mill a year might have helped..

We better not chair him off. He should just say no thanks & walk off

Rivers needs to play midfield next week. He is the only player who actually moves the ball

He isn’t a great kick but he can kick it long and get us over the press

If we kick 2 more goals, it’ll be a draw with Gunston…

Rivers and Bowey our only winners today. Petty also ok given limited chances.

Riv looks good driving his legs out of contest.

JVR is one of the most overrated players amongst Dees fans. I’ll say it again, he’s a bust. No forward craft at all, doesn’t lead, ball bounces off his hands and can barely take a mark, always playing from behind. Poorly coached, but won’t make it.

I've never been a fan, he goes missing too much. I prefer if we tried others

Notice how he comes alive (!) when the game is dead in the last qtr - that is the mentality of a VFL player.

He jumps on the teams back when we're up, but he is impotent when the team meets a challenge, in any quality team.

[censored] I miss Neal Bullen.

We’re not going to beat Gunston, are we?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
