6 T.Mac - thought he was superb all game on Sam Darcy.

5 Gawny - hard to believe TV commentators were rating English so highly formuch of the game.

4 Rivers - I am really liking the way he has been running out of defence recently. Much better mix of long and short balls.

3 Olly - yep, he was good and worked his butt off. At this rate everyone will want to keep him next season, including Bucks.

2 Bowey - gees he's a determined little guy. Should finish third in our B&F.

1 Turner - brilliant early, although lost his way a bit after that cross-field howler.

6 Langford - our next superstar.

5 Rivers - huge lift in form.

4 McDonald - sturdy and reliable.

3 Petracca - strong second half.

2 Oliver - worked his socks off.

1 Fritsch - he even chased and tackled!

Merit award to Chaplin and the entire team for showing the kind of spirit that has been sadly lacking for too long.

Langford was thrashed by Baker until Langford went forward. Poor game until then

Went to the game yesterday only 4th game in 5 years 3 wins 1 loss. Defense did plenty, dogs much better around ball.

5 Tmac

4 Petty

3 Rivers (some of his kicks stopped 6 votes)

2 Bowey

1 Turner (better than McVee/Langford/Langdon/Salem) the amount of ball going in was no wonder Aaron N got plenty.

Hon Mention - Frisch, Clarry got into game 2nd half, is probably deserving of a vote but our back line was enormous yesterday considering how badly we were beaten around the center and ball

No votes - Picket + Windsor, such nearly games, got plenty of ball, shocking disposals, but the future is bright. Picket also missing last qtr.

Is that the biggest winning margin in Demonland POTY history?

In terms of Gawn's previous seasons, before coaches votes become public, this year he has polled in 13 games thus far which equals his 2018 season when he won the award (excluding two finals he polled in). He polled 12 times in 2021 (not including finals where he polled in an additional 2 games). He polled in 10 games in 2019 and 2024 and 9 games in 2016. Should he poll coaches votes in any of the last three games, this season will become his outright most prolific season in his career using that metric.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

  • POSTGAME: Western Bulldogs

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
