Out of all the close 1-10 point losses we've had to good and bad teams alike, this one stung the less. It didn't have the "one that got away" feel about is as we kicked 11.5.71 in the second half meaning we took most of our chances in front of goal and left nothing on the table from a conversion perspective.

I was impressed that we hung in there after conceding the first 2 goals of the last quarter and to kick the last goal of the game showed we were never interested in rolling over. Unfortunately for us, their current/future champions such as Richards, Bont and Darcy stood up in the key moments and got them over the line. Plus they picked the wrong quarter to start fluking goals from the boundary when the game was on the line.

The performance gets a tick from me, and hopefully we repeat the dose the next 2 games.

Exactly, they are the highest scoring team in the league for a reason and we made them earn a win.

I've never bought into the idea that Kade Chandler's place in the team is secure. So i'm not denigrating him.

Yes it is about me. I speak things that I think others don't notice. I search for the mole. It is a common trait of mine.

And sometimes i'm wrong about it. But I still believe it should be heard without sugar coating.

Well nsc let me give you some facts re: Kade Chandler

Goal kicking = 4th at Dees, same as the Bont

Disposals = 11th at Dees, same as JJ

marks = 10th at Dees, same as Rankine

Score Inv = 7th at Dees, same Milkshake & Logan Morris

Fantasy pts = 9th at Dees same as Cam Raynor

Tackles = 4th at Dees, better than JJ and Sidebottom

Contested Pos = 8th at Dees, same as Bergman, Watson, Fletcher

So Kade may not be a Daicos or Langford but he is a very handy sml forward, gut runner and handy around the goals.

Reflecting on Sunday's game, and what just kills me is how well our method stacks up against good teams, but we haven't been able to beat Carlton, Saints, Port etc. That's our season gone.

I feel since the bye, the team has definitely started to adapt much better to the new game plan and what we saw on Sunday is just a continuation of what Goody has been trying to do.

Whoever our new coach is, I feel this group is definitely on the right track. I wouldn't be making massive changes to this style (I think Joey said we've been close to top 4 on some of our key indicators since the bye on First Crack) but some of the focus needs to be on eliminating the inconsistencies with our effort and application.

We've seen us play some unbelievable footy over a few patches, but the focus next year has got to be maintaining it for longer, and we've got to do something different with stoppage. I really think our fitness program needs to be scrutinised and I just can't work out why we're so damn good in third qtrs.

Energetics is the study of energy, as in the scientific use of the word energy to mean ‘capacity to do work’ alah Physics/biochemistry etc.

So what exactly is it you’re referring to when you use the word energetics and how is it a ‘subtle’ philosophy? Can you reference someone else using this word?

Social energetics; particularly disruption to a flow state in a group - see Steven Koetler.

But I study the Tao te Ching, an ancient Chinese text. You can call this a philosophy of energetics/an animating force. A successful football team will have this. It's not just about who can kick the footy. It's about team balance, and who is really committed to the cause and who is only superficially committed (not necessarily because they don't want to be committed but because it is beyond their capabilities to be committed to what is being asked)

In Taoism excessive action or inaction can lead to disharmony.

Chandler is blocking our flow with excessive gesticulations, and excessive 'trying' 'scrambling', but not always listening to what the game needs. He is incredibly flighty, runs through contests and makes himself redundant, and spends half his time congratulating his team mates when they mark in front of goal or even get a free kick or whatever (trust me, it's random behaviour and it's not good for team mimicry). His head is in the sky. He's unbalanced. His raison d'etre is nebulous. Unlike a Windsor or a McVee or anyone else in our team for that matter who simply play their role with groundedness, balance, without overthinking.

In Sunday's game

  1. he didn't take the first option to Salem on the far south wing and ended up running too far (it should be noted, he's not even very fast if people think that is an asset of his)

  2. he didn't take the first option to kick to Petty on the MCC wing - he overthinks and bugs the team flow when it was clear our MO was to keep moving the footy. Sometimes Chandler (because I surmise that he is insecure about his footy and not wanting to [censored] up) takes too long behind the mark. That kick ended up going to Petty (on his second lead to the same spot!) and was spoiled over the boundary. A perfect waste of a possession off half-back at a critical time to move the energy. NOTE: Chandler did the same against Hawthorn kicking out on the full in the last qtr inexplicably - but i'm only highlighting that because of the similar context : LAST QTR, high stakes, heat is on, game is there to be won. There is no 'coincidence' that this happens at this time - rather, it has to do with the player's in-game constitution, what they are and are not capable of when it comes to the crunch. NOTE 2: Chandler also butchered our flow in those finals series 2022 and 2023 and was absolutely insignficant in his impact in those games. NOTE 3: He plays well when the team is up and when we play the easy beats. AGAIN, there is no coincidence here - it has to do with his limitations as a player. It's no shade on Kade, it's just that he cannot help us get to the next level. He stagnates us and clips our potential.

So either he stagnates play (excessive inaction), or he creates random struggles for himself when he has the ball or when he's defending (excessive action) - in other words he is an unbalanced player and unpredictable, which is why some of his highlights are actually randomly impressive because every so often something positive happens out of pure chance ... but i'm not fooled by that. And while most supporters watch and remember what 'happens' , they don't remember what 'doesn't happen' which is A LOT of missed opportunites when Chandler is around the football because of his poor positioning, ineffective scrambling (excessive action) or insecure overthinking and stagnating play when he takes a mark (excessive inaction).

And my overall contention (in this game of AFL, 'a game INCHES' as is always said) is that Chandler is bugging our flow.

We can go into the whys and wherefores of Chandler's particular psychology that makes him do this (including his insecurity, self-consciousness, his disbelief that he is out there on the big stage that leads to a misplaced arrogance to try to inflate his inner self-worth). OR - we can just drop him or even trade him.

You project too much nsc. How many of the things you say about Kade are actually true of you?

Obviously the team's feng shui is also out of alignment and their chakras need tuning. Kade needs to practice some "tai chandler" during training.

Honestly I think you guys are wasting your time trying to refute any of the points that @nextskipclaz made. He was clearly making an attempt at satire and there's no point in doing anything other than ignoring him or laughing. I chose the latter option.

So Kade may not be a Daicos or Langford but he is a very handy sml forward, gut runner and handy around the goals.

And yet I've never seen him impact a game against a really quality opposition. This year he had a a lot of the football agains the kangaroos and the eagles.

Those stats are deceiving because he has clangers - but not only clangers , it's more how he makes himself redundant around a contest, or runs to the outside before we've won the footy.

And more importantly I still have trauma around him just never impacting in a game against a really good team. And actaully stunting our flow with his insecure play in last qtrs and when the game is there to be won.

Yes he has improved, but he keeps defaulting to being an un-impactful player.

He has got a lot of his possessions as that link player this year, but his ball use isn't particularly good, in fact USUALLY his kick misses his target inside 50.

His tackles rarely stick!!!! And yes he tries to tackle a lot - so great fantasy score.

His goals are often cheap.

But apart from all of that his true sensibility is often scared and insecure but he masks it by being overly talkative even telling other players what to do, and that has bred a fakeness in our group.

He should have come into the team and just put his head down. But he tries to organise everyone, but we've never looked so unorganised as a team. Pre-chandler we had good shape. With Chandler and all of his gesticulating we actually lost shape and became confused - ala the last 4 years.

Why did he take it on himself to be a General? It totally bugged us and put us in a funk. Because his intent, the way he does it, was always out of scarcity/insecurity/ rather than true Generalship which is unhesitant and confident.

Chandler has been detrimental to our balance. I don't back down from that.

I don’t get why many on here pot Viney as much as they do. Sure - his season this year hasn’t been his best but he is our reigning B&F so he’s not totally useless.

Check out Viney with 4m to go, game in the balance, gathers the ball on the wing, baulks and instead of a 25m hit up kick to one of two free Melbourne players he BOMBS it to a 3 on 1

Has been doing it for years. Clearly not much happening upstairs when he get the pill.

Ok, you started off talking about this whole thing saying:

‘Happy to reiterate for those who don’t understand football and Energetics’

Flow state and Taoism are not Energetics.

Energy in physics/hard science disciplines is not the same as someone’s level of focus/state of mind or ‘Qi’.

You’re going to have a tough time helping people to understand a word that you also don’t know the meaning of.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
