I’m amazed at how quickly everyone has convinced themselves that Nathan Buckley is the best man for the job.

Outside of the Tassy job he hasn’t been mentioned as a possible coach in waiting.

I can’t recall him being mentioned on this site (maybe I missed it) as an option until Goody was sacked last week. The consensus was get the best up and comer for the job.

Oh well. I hope the board knows what its doing.

Buckley confirmed he was asked about the West Coke job but knocked it back.

i thought he spoke well regarding the job tonight on The Couch. Was very measured and respectful to Goodwin and the MFC recruitment process.

I reckon there is a bit to go under the bridge still. Clearly hes been approached already but something tells me it will be him asking more of the questions then the selection panel.

All I can say is that the last few years I've enjoyed his upbeat and very considered commentary on games, players and tactics that showed me he was still very much with his head in the game perhaps waiting for an opportunity.

I didn't consider him as an option but I was happy when he was mentioned.

He himself says he had a negative approach to other players and weaknesses that he changed at the end of his coaching to be more positive and to focus on what a player can bring rather than what they can't.

I saw that and was actually pretty surprised because I read today that part of the reason Goodwin got moved on was for suggesting our current list was a year away from a premiership whereas the board believe the current window is closed and a slight backwards step for a reset may be required.

Jordan was basically describing Buckley as the man for the job when he was talking “hard edge…”.

Recall 15-20 years ago when 'tapping up' (ie: having early conversations) was seen as unethical/problematic, and now it's de rigueur and just a normal part of everyday society in terms of gathering data, understanding peoples positions and their current landscape, so you can make an informed decision.

It began with players, and the collective AFL fandom base shock at how on earth NRL players could sign contracts with alternate clubs and still play out the season fully invested in their current team. It has now understandably, shifted to the wider FD.

To paraphrase Brene Brown - 'being clear, is being kind'. And that works well in a business sense, when the industry is effectively closed off and in a bubble.

SG would have understood this having been in the industry for 3 decades, and not suprised that other coaches have been spoken to our sounded out..

It reminds me of Paul Roos before he took the job but bucks excitement is a little more obvious and he’s not as good an actor

I’d be pretty shocked if he wasn’t our senior coach next year

I don’t really know what to tell you - good governance is good governance - you may not run the ‘proven’ (whatever that entails) coaches through the cog and psyche tests but you have some form of structure so that you give yourselves the best opportunity to find the person your organisation can get behind.

And a big part of that is the effing process for how you hired the bloke!
