You’ll all be delighted to hear that they’re practicing goal kicking… with an oval ball, not a round one.

Whoa Max just nailed one from about 50 out.

Good to see both Jeffo and Roo here, as well as Culls.

Anyways, the boys are pumped for tomorrow, as are the coaches.

Goody says we go into every single match knowing we can win. He clearly doesn’t read Demonland.

Still kicking for goal. Some of them that is. The others are doing drills where the ball is handballed hard and fast into the ground a few feet away from them. I call it scramblin’ practice

Spargo also out so that makes at least 3 changes from last week!

Spargs didn’t play last week

I stand corrected then!

Wish he did, could’ve used some of his precise kicking at half forward last week.

Jeffo and Kolt also trained.

Can dispel any doubt about Melky getting up. His shoulder is “fine, better than fine” and he’s a cert for tomorrow

I’m thinking Culley as sub and Sharpie to start (?)

If of those two, hope it’s the other way around. Going forward, if Sharpe plays, then it’s sub or bust for me.

Would love to see both JVR and JEFFO get a gig. In fact if Jeffo doesn't play then what a massive ballsup, should have played last night then! Gawd I can see myself going outside and shouting at the clouds later today!

Cold and damp, just a slight drizzle falling intermittently.

Kossie appears the only sensible one out there. Well rugged up, in boots, minimal participation, had a walk around the boundary line, then some shots at goal.

Some decided they didn't need boots, wearing runners and slipping everywhere. Gave a few of the others a laugh.

Turner was kicking beautiful goals from 40 out. Rivers working seriously on his routine straight out from 40. Lindsay also working well, he appears to want to nail his first. Bowey kicking them from the boundary line, also giving the inside-out a go, getting close every time.

Max and Lever, kick to kick, Oliver and Fritsch also together. Oliver doing warm-ups (stretches and resistance) to his hip, groin, and upper thigh area.

8 Mannequins were out, (don't think that about some players), placed 25 meters out covering all angles. They have done a fair bit of work, I reckon on the goal drills, and continue to show more is being done in the application.

General feel is one of, you know, subdued, tension, with various groups connecting with each other, and some joviality.

In the shelter, a group of families hung out. My guess they were an invited group. As the players came off the Paddock they asked for selfies and signatures. Players seemed happy to comply.

26 at training - no Sestan, so it seems he wasn't pulled out of the Casey team last night to debut in the AFL tomorrow.

Our guess is that Jeffo and Kolt miss out. So does either Howes or Culley.

Sharp probably gets a full game with either Howes or Culley the sub.

So JVR comes in for AJ, and one other in for Laurie.

The boys avoided the worst of the weather in a very brief Captain's Run. Lots of goal-kicking practice, although Chocco can only get to one or two at a time.

It did also look like it was very much a voluntary activity - not scripted. Who knows they might do a thousand shots out at Casey....

Hopefully not, we don’t need two more marking talls with the weather outlook for tomorrow

Culley & JVR for Johnson & Laurie

Agree Pickett with Jeffo he should be playing in one of the friggen games, but l think he’d really struggle in the wet against the Pies & JVR probably lucky that he can ruck a bit

Xander McGuire reporting that Oliver and as per usual Lever are both in slight doubt for tomorrow, but he then also went on to say that the club assured him that both will play.

That would explain Culley.

May also explain why we held so many out of Casey last night - 6 day break into travel to Port Adelaide too.

That’s a good point @Harvey Wallbanger - keeping some players fresh to deal with the next month of travel could well be a factor. Bear in mind we’ve also travelled in 3 of our last 5 games (Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs).

So, just a run-of-the-mill day for you then.

That they were in the shelter says they were invitees who don’t regularly attend because regulars know that regardless of the weather, the shelter is for players and staff only. Oh, and me (special dispensation as a result of attrition) 😅

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
