Exactly. He wasn't dropped because he hasn't a 'niggle'

Simple case of being out of form really and nothing else.

I don't think he has the talent to be more than average. Average is not good for a kpf.

Jefferson who was building confidence coming into AFL footy as a deep forward, gets a hand injury then they put him down back at Casey ? what the ? Put Fritsch down back if we had to many forwards, hes got more experience there, and can work on defensive pressure.

Key forward is not an easy place to play.

After the first half, when he didn’t look like getting near the ball, I would’ve put him on Guruzewski. Just to play back shoulder and have him lead you to the ball a couple of times. Sometimes that’s all it takes.

Missed the last quarter yesterday and just now watched the full replay.

As I already said Roo probably needed to follow one of their key forwards around after halftime.

Most of the problem is the same as our AFL side had up until yesterday – they are not giving the handball to players running past.

Trying to do it all themselves is inviting pressure, which makes it harder to get it out to players who are now stationary.

Thought Verrall broke even in the ruck against one of the bigger bodies in the AFL. Madden did not get many taps to advantage – probably less than Verrall who also missed out on several frees – blatant pushes in the back etc. – as the umpires have no idea on ruck contests.

For those who went or watched a significant amount online - how did our Wade Derksen go as a key back for GWS?

Dominated.

Was easily one of their best players.

Might have to revisit adding him to the list for 2026. He’s still not getting a game at GWS despite excellent form. Behind Taylor, Buckley and Idun as key defence and Giants might prefer to give Aleer the first call up. Derksen would be a handy addition to fill a future key defence role from May and Tmcd.

Hopefully we've kept up the dialog with his management. He's OOC this year so it should be easier.

Also Himmelberg.

Easy up. From what I recall JVR's goal kicking and contested mark stats are up there with guys like Schwarz at a comparable age.

His set shot kicking is pretty elite.

Think he's got plenty of talent and capability to be way more than average. Playing as a key forward for us over that 4 week period would be enough to get many down on form and confidence.

Has a few bad games and posters like this ride him off.. thankfully you have no involvement with managing the club

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
