Great to see Bedford & Hogan kicking goals! Had a chance to take Hogan back & keep Bedford…

got ben brown and a premiership instead

we prioritised chandler over bedford, and the former is probably winning our best and fairest at this point in time, and getting better and better all the time

Who honestly thinks Reid will stay put.

all indications suggest otherwise

the big q is who is going to offer him the juiciest deal and give meth coke what they need to prise him free

we're been in this position before, where a prince who was promised was selected at #1 and never truly looked committed to the cause

ain't fun

Yeah BB knees which we knew & yrs a flag, Hogan was higher risk but larger reward, Bedford , Jordan … poor decisions

bedford and jj both left for more opportunity; chandler and sparrow were both ahead of them at the time, and chandler is still a superior player to bedford

we got second round picks for both, from memory, which enabled us to trade 'up' to get the likes of tholstrup etc.

they had contract offers with us but took the chance to go north to get more game time; it's worked in their favour, just as langdon leaving flagmantle for us worked in his and ours

swings, roundabouts

jj being able to leave as a free agent was galling and only possible as a result of the stupid afl's stupid rule changes (that have since been rescinded, i think) for delisted free agents, where the only reason we 'delisted' jj was because in those days you had to take a mandatory # of picks in the draft, but could 'retain' that player as a dfa on your own list

seriously one of the dumbest rule changes ever, that cooked us just like the change to nga selections hurt us (and the aints) after jamara went #1, which has since been rolled back, and everyone had a hissy fit about academy selections

be interesting to see if as much 'tunneling' attention is given to what toby greene just did to matt owies as has been given to bayley fritsch doing similar to tom stewart

I don’t think Dangerfield was entirely innocent either.

Essendon have our pick potentially 3-4 plus their own first.

If Allan goes do they get a compensation pick?

They might get 1,2?

Either team?

can we pin this post so that every moron who complains about us ‘getting rid’ of Jordon and Bedford can see it?

yes, if he leaves as a free agent, they will - most likely - get band 1 compensation

So potentially eagles will have

Pick 1 for finishing last

Pick 2 band 1 compo

Pick 3 our first pick via bombers for Reid

Pick 5/6 bombers first pick

So out of Hogans 9 marks which he subsequently booted 9 goals how many marks were big contested pack marks and how many were taken out on a lead.

This one is far worse, as Greene looked at Owies before tunnelling him and then Owies is completely upended, landing on his head. This was extremely dangerous. Greene could have pulled out.

Now the old boys are saying “what could Toby have done”? Pulled out for a start.

This is the difference in the media.

Fritta canned and people looking for a suspension and with Toby, trying to get him off.

Can see St Kilda being one of those sides that goes from missing the 8 to finishing top 4 either after round 24 or at the conclusion of the finals. They’ll win the majority of their games at Marvel and will pick up a bonus away win today. Could even beat GWS next week at a neutral venue.

Port are a bit like us at the moment. Severely low on confidence.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
