Flush run this afternoon - consisting of a couple of soccer matches.

Absent: McVee, Lever, Jefferson and Hore

Rehabbing: Tholstrup, Kentfield, Culley, Spargo and Windsor

Windsor walked the boundary barefoot (with bandaging on the heel), and mentioned to a punter that he was "better, and getting better by the day". Observation: unlikely to be available this week.

Spargo did not join the others; he wasn't limping obviously but left very early - perhaps being extra cautious given his first full game back for some time.

Culley doing exercises with one of the physios.

Kentfield and Tholstrup jogging gently - Tholstrup seems to be doing slightly more each week, but still looks weeks away from a Casey return.

In positive news May joined the soccer, so hopefully is available this week.

I expect we will have a formal injury update from the Club soonish.

Thanks for the training report Harvey. I’m all for keeping it light and fun and maybe it’s just me but please Melbourne Demons read the room can we not do it with footballs. Our basic skills, decision making and communication on the weekend were putrid. Play some team based fun games with an Aussie Rules football. Not great optics.

Jai looking to join in main training within two weeks

Luker improving ahead of time, looking at three or so more weeks rehabbing

I honestly don't mind a fun little soccer/football kick about towards the end of training

  • Boosts morale a little cos its fun
  • still work on communication
  • breaks up monotony
  • Players still get dynamic movement through their legs etc

I'm sure there'll be enough skill based training/meetings to address issues from the weekend.

The flush runs and captain’s runs are always at Gosch’s and are never serious sessions. They’re basically a short break in between for example gym, skills training (indoors). The serious sessions are at Casey. Besides, they did goal kicking practice today.

The mood was good, lots of energy and positivity. It’s not a serious session so yeah they were happy and having fun, for the most part; while they were still buoyant during goal kicking practice, it was a productive time and they took it seriously.

edit: Max was as playful as everyone else. At one point he got Maysie in a headlock and called him a (rhymes with runt) while knuckling the top of his head. 😂

Did anyone introduce Fritsch to an actual AFL football?

Thanks for the reply and the training report/s . Probably me still grumpy from Sunday. I understand it is important to have a break from the grind of gym, meetings, watching tape etc. I know they have the main sessions at Casey which will be intense and I genuinely see the value in having fun sessions to keep morale high. As mentioned maybe just me but for the optics after Sunday I  wish they had these games with an Aussie Rules Football.
Glad to hear they had goal kicking practice today, I hope it wasn’t from the penalty spot.

Tackling on the weekend highlights their soccer skills.

As Ghosty has reported, the mood at these sessions is always pretty light - particularly when they play soccer. AJ's a handy goalkeeper!

No moping about, if that was the essence of the question. Goody was there.

Official injury report now released with some of our "medium-termers" getting closer to action. Hopefully May is ready to go, and I would expect AJ to return for Jefferson. Lever not present at training.

You’re cutting the 4o’clock deadline very fine but I appreciate your reports very much. Interesting that the club is really trying to bring some light hearted play into the players routine. I’ll trust the club that this is all part of the healing process and we’re staying close as a group. For mine I’d love to see football’s being used as it’s a belief of mine that you train the way you play. Im guessing Thursday’s training will be about skills and bedding down our plan. Let’s just chalk up a win this week.

A test for this week.

I’d consider him as sub. If by some bizarre chance we’re in the game at 3 qtr time, I reckon he’d be a dangerous option coming into the game fresh.

Valid concern

Where’s the validity in your question?

You attempted humour and got cheap laughs from likeminded posters, so good on you!

Trained well today. Seems really happy and like someone who’s confident they’ll be right for Saturday 😉

Gut feel

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
