All these posts and no mention of the great Troy Longmuir.

Can someone a little older than me refresh my memory on this guy? I remember him being pretty ordinary for us and yet we shipped him off to Fremantle for pick 19 - which we used on 250 gamer and club president Brad Green!

How is that possible? Were Freo just [censored] or did they see something? Would it be like shipping Bailey Laurie off for a firstie or was Longmuir better than that?

Theoretically how do we get Jackson out of Freo? Now that Kozzy is secure we should go all in. It’s obvious that he really wants to get back.

Assuming we can afford him in our salary cap, 2026 & 2027 first round picks plus probably a 2nd round pick.

The hard thing is Freo would have to accept the trade, and they are going to have serious egg on their face if it does eventuate.

I guess it depends how much Luke really wants to get out of Perth. I am from Perth originally and do know people who know their family. It is pretty messy everything that has gone on, so there is a decent chance he says to Freo I need to leave ASAP.

I have always thought that getting Jackson was a fairy story. However what if we added JVR to the trade?

Not really sure where he fits into the Freo side though with Treacy and Amiss?

I guess they may come sniffing for him.

I still think if Jackson is vehemently wanting to leave then picks can get it done.... everyone else trades picks!

I have thought all along this is just wishful thinking on our part. Jackson is not leaving Freo. Our recruiting lies elsewhere.

You're probably right, but the talk about his family issues is 100% correct

I find it hard to believe Freo would release him without getting an over the top deal. They have all the elements on their side.

Nah change it to "Get Dogga in our mouths" 😆

I went to a Premium Members function where Danners said that if Travis Johnstone had Longmuir’s application to training and preparation he would be the best player in the league. Danners was super [censored] off when Troy left.

With his kicking skills and high footy iq a super fit TJ would be the prototype modern player.

2 first and a 2nd round is pretty good. You wouldn't get anymore than that.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat personally.

I think we'd have to look at it, but I'd rather keep JVR and give him rhe second forward role with no Rick responsibility, play him next to LJ and Petty/Turner.

I'm a huge jvr fan - I'm absolutely convinced he'll be a gun.

That's hardly a big call - even with his middling form this season, his career numbers stack up well against his current peers (eg Amiss, Treacy, JUH, Darcy, McDonald, Philthorp) and the gun key forwards in the 2000s (eg Netiz, Lyon, Cunrnow, Kennedy, Darling, McKay, Naughton, not a mile from Brown) at the same age.

I really rate Treacy, and he is in ripping form this season.JVR's career numbers are comparable to Treacy, who is a season ahead (and almost a year older) than Roo:

What is the story behind LJ wanting so desperately to get out of Perth?

I know. I'm a fan too. I guess I'm hypothetically thinking about list balance and what could land LJ, that solves not just the ruck/forward problem, but the Max succession.

BUT, if there is any sort of chance of landing Jackson i hope they do what it takes to get him - and whatever it takes might include putting JVR on the table.

It really is impossible to replace Gawn - but getting Jackson in would be huge in terms of creating an opportunity for a succession plan

Jackson is still young (24 in September) - barring serious injury he'll play another eight to ten seasons.

I could see Max playing three more seasons after this year.

That takes Jackson to 27 years old, hitting his peak, with still another six or seven seasons left in his career as the number one ruck. Perfect

I reckon Maxy struggled to find synergy with Grundy in large part because he wants to be the man. Super competitive, he'd be happy to take every ruck contest.

But it seemed to work better Jackson. And if they can make it work it might help to extend Maxy's career.

Keeping Koz and getting Jackson in would be a game changer.

All that said, how good would it be to get Jackson AND keep JVR.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
