Bowey, Petty, McDonald, Lever are the starting backs with Salem, and Riv off the back flanks for the ‘A’ team.

interesting that with mcvee being ruled out for the first part of the season that rivers has been repositioned as a back flanker for the internal trial game

mcdonald in the 'a team' as may is set to suit up for the indigenous game, i assume

No Windsor today either so wonder whether Rivers goes back to the midfield once Caleb returns.

Sparrow kicks truly. ‘A’ side comfortably in control.

If they weren't I'd be very concerned

I’ll try and post some more consolidated thoughts tonight, but we definitely seem to be pressing up the ground on the transition and seem to be more matured with this than we were in the first half of last year.

Bowey managed to push up and kick a pearler.

How did Bowey look? I'm hopeful he takes a big step up this year.

he playing back or wing?

Fritsch with another, takes his tally to 3.1.

I’m somewhat tentatively going to say Salem is back to his best, looks to be moving very similar to 2021 form and accumulating and distributing well.

Theres a brief stoppage with the coaching staff addressing both teams. Play resumes with 8:39 on the clock for the second stanza.

Clarry has been extremely vocal barking instructions in the D50/F50.

McAdam with a brilliant gather and sleight of hand out of a contested turnover in the centre square.

HB, but I think he’s now being trialled as a HF. Missed a bit of play moving sides but he wasn’t one of the six out of the back on the most recent play.

Looks good, I’d like him to get it a bit more but he’s definitely one of our better users. I actually think he could be a reasonable small forward for us.

The challenge with Salo is that he seems to get injured or sick, misses a few games, then can't get back to his best. Lever is the same way.

CP just mentioned he’ll be back in full training on Monday.

This really is pathetic by the club, either they don't give a hoot or they are totally incompetent I don't know which is worse

Agree entirely. I really thought his confidence was really off last year and it showed. He really looked to doubt his ability to take contact.

Question is does he play against Norf week after?

An under utilised asset we have.

Bowey nailing a frankfurt on the run from 50.

You wouldn't think he'll play in the seniors off just one week back in full training.

More likely against Freo on 2 March.

Yze and Culley both playing for the ‘B’ side.

Roy george?

are we winning?

umpire is killing us....

Sharp has hit the scoreboard with a snap around the corner. A beautiful Joe the Goose.

Salem and Bowey swapped onto the ‘B’ side for the last, Laurie now playing ‘A’ side with Hore.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
