Andy Moniz-Wakefield is a Cat A-Rookie.

We have one Cat-B Rookie Spot.

Kudos for updating this list. I come here regularly throughout the season.

Surely Sharp got more than a one year contract when crossing over from Brisbane?

yeah, that is a bit hard to tell, I can find no official details anywhere on the length of the contract he got. it was not reported anywhere in the media.  but the other contract sources suggest it was only 1 year

Update for Jack Henderson

I assume Henderson comes onto the Main list not to the cat.b Rookie, and I think it is only for the one year

I wonder if we can still sign a Cat B rookie?

Given we are doing an Irish themed round 1, would be nice to announce our first Irish player in how many years?!? Must be about 30!

Henderson goes onto the rookie list - not the main/senior list or cat b list.

We still have a cat b selection in which we can sign someone who fits the criteria at any time.

Marc McGowan from the age confirmed it at the time of the trade too actually. Good on him. Good security.

Yeah made sense for both him and us, young player who was an emergency for a grand final. Also good on the lions, who could’ve easily held him to that contract for additional depth but were happy to let him go… unlike a certain orange team

Brilliant work red and blue forever.👍😁

Could someone answer this question regarding the status of our two recent SSP recruits.

The chart above classifies both Jack Henderson and Jai Culley as Category A rookies.

Henderson replaced Shane McAdam who is a Primary listed player while Culley replaced Andy Moniz-Wakefield, a Cat A rookie. Does this mean that irrespective of the status of the inactive list player being replaced, a SSP player is automatically Category A?

Yes.

Our overall 'Allowed' list size goes from 44 to 46 for this year only where we will have 8 Cat A rookies instead of 6.

Note:  we still have a Cat B vacancy so all up the current list size is 45.

McAdam and AM-W keep their current status and are counted accordingly.

At the end of the year, SSP players can be promoted to Primary list, remain Cat A or delisted.

Not sure where else to put this:

"With as many as 18 Melbourne players currently out of contract, a trio of developing prospects — including two untried rookies — have made their way into the notebooks of rival recruiters as they build strong reserves form.

Category B rookie Andy Moniz-Wakefield remains unsigned more than two months after suffering a cruel ACL rupture during match simulation earlier this year.

...

Meanwhile, two of his uncapped teammates from the 2022 Rookie Draft — Oli Sestan and Will Verrall — are putting together strong VFL campaigns as they push for an AFL debut."

From the class of 2025, I'd give Melksham and TMac another year. Sign up Howes for 2 year extension, McVee gets a 5 year deal, Spargs a 2 year extension. Rookie wise AMW is really the only stand out that deserves elevation. The others i dont know enough about.

2026 - don't need to worry about it yet but i wouldn't renew McAdam or Laurie. May would be considered for a 1 year extension if his form warrants it and body allows, which at this stage is still good enough. Salem i reckon retires, whilst others at this stage should all be offered a new contract.

2027 Gawn champion - would love for him to get to 300 games. Going to be really close if he can manage his body right and we get to play a final or two. Realistically will probably need another year, which we should absolutely give him. Want him to be most games played, most games captained, most AA etc etc. He deserves every individual accolade. All others (bar Sharpie) should get another contract

2028+ too far away to make any major calls, but Viney probably retires.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
