Yes, they did. Hereโ€™s Tom Morris saying Clayton is still live to be going to Geelong AFTER Richo Tim Lamb AND Brad Green all put it to bed. McClure did the same thing. Damien Barrett went even harder and said it would definitely happen on the last day. How right they were!ย

He is not saying he would be traded only that it was still on the table. Bit of weasel words to be sure but I'd hardly say this constitutes getting it wrong.

Where did Barrett say it would definitely happen?

All the media nonsense is just click bait guys.ย

Barring injury, Claz has set himself for a big year.

The media chimps are just chumps.

The champ is back and chomping at the bit!

Disappointed you couldn't fit a "chemp" in there somewhere.

Heโ€™s saying itโ€™s still on the table in spite of every Melbourne leader saying it wasnโ€™t. On the table is still happening. Itโ€™s more than weasel words, itโ€™s directly contradicting the MFC.ย

Enough, itโ€™s over, it was an awful saga for us fans, but the media by refusing to acknowledge senior MFC figures statements, drove a story that was over well beyond when it was done. Mainly at the instigation of GFC in my opinion.ย

Youโ€™re absolutely right. Clayton now plays for Geelong, they nailed it!

And those of us who said Geelong and Clayton + management were driving the trade but it would never happen as Lamb, Richo, Green and Goody all put it to bed immediately, how wrong we were!

Itโ€™s going to be hell to see him in the hoops this year but at least we have that new very similar looking number 13 who had 3 goals and 28 disposals and looks alright! ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

Yeah because a club has never had a public message contrary to what's actually being said behind the scenes.

Trade period is a poker match, with bluffs and gambits aplenty and clubs will leak info to the media as part of the game. Both sides are hoping the other one folds.

Oliver wasn't traded but it was certainly on the cards. It's fine, it's a professional sport, this sort of thing happens every year.

If you're over the conversation you don't have to respond.ย

And yet this trade period we didnโ€™t, in fact Tim Lamb didnโ€™t even spin if we were a destination club after the Houston trade fell apart. He admitted we had issues in an open press conference. Goody also is pretty truthful to a fault.
ย

Sure, clubs and players lie about trades, Houston is a great example, Luke Jackson etc etc. But it was clear as day that the president, list manager, head of football, coach and even the GFC list manager werenโ€™t bluffing in this case and yet the media continued to build on the story well after all these people made clear statements, leading to the โ€œcleared out his lockerโ€ insanity that continues to be ridiculed. Damian Barrett even used the Oliver situation to call us a โ€œmess of a clubโ€ AFTER Oliver stayed (note the Shand review stating while there were issues it was hardly as bad as the media were making out).

The reason we are interacting in this thread is you used the idea that Clayton and Geelong were interested in the trade as proof that those of us who believed Green, Lamb, Richo and Goody (and Mackie) and the noises inside that club that Clayton wouldnโ€™t be traded, were somehow wrong, happy clappers, deluded etc. We werenโ€™t, we were 100% right, Clayton was held to his contract and the MFC side was never trading him at any point during the trade period, the Green conversation had already occurred, hence why Lamb and Mackie shut it down day one!
ย

I wouldโ€™ve left it as a simple joke but then you asked me to show my workings and Iโ€™ve wasted time trawling through online articles to show you the proof despite the fact most of this happened on trade radio for which there is no searchable archive and is also well documented in the trade thread on here. And yet, even when I send you the links you still reject the truth because โ€˜clubs lie in trade periodโ€™. Cmon mate.ย

If we have a good season this year, watch the player agents sounding us out for their players who want to move clubs.

The crux of this asinine conversation was โ€˜were we keen to offloadโ€™ and we just werenโ€™t. How can I tell?ย

Oliver is still here.

The rest is the normal amount of noise that trade week brings including agents and players agitating a situation.

The reporters got wind of the agitation but misread our willingness to engage in a trade - they were wrong.ย

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
