Tim Lamb has said we won't be going down the delisted free agent path this year.

Put a line through him.

Mids: Viney, Oliver, Tracc, Rivers, Sparrow

Wings: Langdon, Windsor, Billings

HHFs: Kolt, Sharp, Laurie

Smalls: Pickett, Chandler, Spargo

Developmental: Brown, Sestan, Woey?, AMW?

There’s certainly room for one more midfielder, ideally someone with some forward attributes.

But I wouldn’t be in a rush. If 5 and 9 go on mids or half forwards we can probably hope at least one of them is ready to contribute

Agree we could do with some more midfield depth, but I have some serious question marks with some of the above:

After only a few rounds in, Billings didn't really look close.  Can he put in a killer pre-season somehow and turn his career around at a late age like T Mac?  I've got my doubts, but you never know.

After pleanty of opportunities at senior level Laurrie just doesn't look to cut it for mine.  I'd much rather put more game time and give opportunities to guys like Woey and Doggy Brown Jnr.

Was interesting to see Judd McVee given some midfield time late in the season and if AMW can keep performing in defence, perhaps that opens up an oppertunity for Judd to spend more time as a mid?

Billings and Laurie shouldn’t be on AFL lists, or at least not ours. But given they are we probably have to lean on them as depth rather than add in more depth players. Obviously we hope young guys come through ahead of them if they don’t improve. I still have some small hope for Laurie if he adds a more physical edge now he’s starting to become a man not a boy. Small hope.

I’d actually return AMW to the forwards this season because we need someone else with some speed and spark. Either way he needs a big preseason to get an afl level tank, if that happens he might be something.

With Tommo delisted it means we may of changed our minds on the SSP or DELISTED FA path — depends on Hore

Personally I’d of preferred we added one more mid for depth but still seems less likely

I'm not really sure if I've worked it out properly, and it can be tricky as the make up of numbers between senior list and rookie list are somewhat flexible, but as it stands I think we will have 3 spots to fill through either the rookie draft or with delisted free agents.

McVee needs to be upgraded due to the 10 game clause I think, so that could be done with that really late end of the draft pick (we don't have to do it that way, but it would mean we meet that 3 pick minimum criteria). The other rookies I assume will stay as rookies, meaning we will have 6 (if Hore is retained). From what I can gather, 6 is the maximum number of category A rookies you can have.

It's a bit messy, and I may not have worked this out correctly, but my guess for our offseason is something like this:

Brayshaw - Kentfield (R)
Schache - Campbell
ANB - Sharp
Hunter - Pick 5 (Smith?)
Brown - Pick 9 (Armstrong?)
Tomlinson - DFA (Ethan Phillips?)
Smith (not yet delisted, but surely?) - DFA (Parfitt?)

KFW (Cat B) - Mentha (Cat B)

Hore - Retain

McVee upgrade to make up the required 3 picks.

I had him included among the rookies. I think because he's played less than 10 games he can go onto the rookie list for another year. They may choose to upgrade him though I guess.

Additional after thought - Just realized you may have meant because he's a cat B rookie I think?

Yes FFD Cat B at present.

Still need mid field depth  refer this season with Trac  out and Clarry injured and fitness issue as year evolved. Need Rivers Kossie Kolt and the duke at centre not wing to raise the pace and aggression level of our mids

Agreed, but we also need Plans B, C and D, more diversity, more movement up forward, more mongrel and fewer 'favourites' playing when others may well be in better form.

Must be a Francophile kind of day today.

My director is in France currently but he's had some kind of food poisoning and isn't too well. I've getting morning emails with nothing but French pleasantries. Usually a no nonsense no faff kind of guy so he's definitely lost the plot.

Well, that's what happens when you LEAN into French PASTRIES!

(Think about it...)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
