You’ve given up on a group based on half a bad season.

You meant half a bad season each year for 3 years, right?

There's far too much emphasis by some solely on the ladder position over form since '21 without looking at the substance of those wins. We were far from convincing in 22 and 23, and the writing was largely on the wall for most of this year.

Being 2.5 wins off the bottom four doesn't bode well at all, despite the apparent closeness of the season.

during the home and away seasons in 22 and 23 if we didn't win we were 'in the game' until the final moments

i wish people would stop talking down those performances

2024 a different kettle of fish entirely

As I said, people tend to look at the results of those seasons without looking at the substance of the games.

You can project all the positivity you wish, I don't buy into it and ultimately the finals results tell the story.

I think Tex Walker makes more sense if we go this direction.

This is the same Tex Walker who sooked it up at Jake Lever leaving the crows.  No Thanks.

Would prefer Peter Wright. Far cheaper and more durable.

And scared of his own shadow

NO!!! Please.

Lynch was a hell of a player.

WAS a hell of a player.

I watched what injuries and father time did to our Benny Brown, and know that sometimes there is no turning back the clock.

I recall him clobbering into the Swans earlier this year.

Ideally you want a big key forward who plays with aggression but we did win a flag with Ben Brown.

If we are going to bring in a big forward id prefer a player who can 1) get on the park and 2) can play back up ruck to Gawn so JVR/Petty don't have to. I wanted Chol last off season but it seems like our recruiters weren't interested, didn't try hard enough or were rebuffed. I don't know who else is out there so if it was between Lynch or Wright I'd prefer Wright as I think Lynch is cooked.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
