There's no national indoor (with proper stadiums) futsal comp to teach the juniors and young teens superb first touch ball comtrol and skills a la Sth America and Europe.

We have not invested in the youngsters here which should be acting as feeder pathways into the open field under 18 comps.

Our whole 'football' system here is a jokefest.  Our first touch (inability to control / dribble) and lack of quality strikers has been a blight on the game for decades.

But let's not build proper futsal stadiums and a serious futbol junior comp, better to spend millions on attempting to host a world cup that we may not even qualify for!

The fact that we still can't get a proper second division happening says it all.

There's no serious junior feed in comp to instill the skills required and needed at the top level L

Sth America and the top Euro juniors learn alot of their amazing ball comtrol, finishing skills and striking in their junior years playing indoor futsal before hitting the open field rough and tumble.  All we have out here is the rough & tumble junk football pathways (in a skill / ball control sense) which can only take you so far.

13 Preliminary Finals in 18 years

Imagine the MFC doing that….

I reckon if the state government built us our own Stadium at Casey, and then we only allowed 300 opposition supporters in we’d give that record a fair shake.

Before the game Chris Scott says: (not a direct quote) if we do this, this and this, we'll expose their vulnerabilities.

The guy might be arrogant but damn I would love a coach at MFC with such decisive confidence and capacity to adapt to circumstances.

The players are so well drilled

They value balance and agility and  everything is geared towards that. Throw in futsal practice and they develop their ability to work in right spaces from a young age. Sometimes I feel we're still in the 'strength' and power mindset when it comes to development.

Even if you are lucky enough to have some good ball playing players how the hell would they even be considered in Arnie's sides?

I [censored] loath them, but credit where it’s due.
Their inability to die is something else.

We've got 25 million people and soccer is equal 3rd football sport with rugby. Australia just isn't in the ball park. All the best potential players are playing AFL. Everyone here knows it's a superior game in every way.

Their role players have a lot of skill, the ball control tonight has been top shelf

Ball control, ball movement and strength when tackled - can we aspire to that, please?

Apparently ginnivan is at the London tavern watching the game. Sam Mitchell is aware.

After going to the races gf eve last year & winning I guess he's sticking with tradition

Certainly more “i” s in Ginnivan than in team.

It's sickening.

Prelims in 7 of 9 years and 13 of 18.

The comp has never been more equal, except for Geelong.

This year is odd though. Most years they dominate H&A and then struggle more in finals. This year they were arguably the least impressive 3rd ranked H&A side in AFL history but have just turned in a flawless QF performance on the road to boot.

However, that's now four straight finals losses for Port, three of which have been at home.

I also am not a fan of the Cats or their coach but boy oh boy they can play pretty good footy. Good skills and quick but on the other hand they played Deers in headlights. Port was very, very ordinary and look like following us and going out in straight sets.

Playing in tight spaces on a proper (not in a converted indoor cricket netted stadium with a giant tennis ball that rebounds off the nets like a Queen's tennis court) indoor futsal stadium in a proper junior comp that feeds into a national comp would be a start L.

It will never happen here though.  No one has the vision or seemingly the political connections to get it funded and off the ground (nationally).

There's plenty of basketball stadiums and comps around though!

Lets hope that either the dogs or hawks blow port away next weekend.

Yes. How many times did Jeelong break tackles tonight, keep their feet and run off!!

I would be putting that Stat up on the wall. “This is what you aspire towards..”

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
