Having said that, quite a few of those roles were null and void because they were allowed to run unchecked through the midfield. I don’t think Fullarton would have made a difference, but I think Verrall might have negated some of their many hits to advantage.

It was just putting our defence on the back foot immediately following stoppage. No defence can withstand that onslaught.

Yeah that’s a fair call. Would you say Ed Langdons role has changed much in the last 2 seasons? Seems to still occupy a wing and run from one end to the other. 
 

But to agree with you, those ratings don’t seem to reflect my own opinion that Ed is having a better year this year than the previous 2 despite going down in ratings considerably 🤷‍♂️

I didn’t get to watch the game today so there isn’t much I can add.

I fully expected a loss today, but not by 50, and not with 0 clearances in the first quarter and 3 to HT. 

Fremantle clearly love playing us and I’m more than a little bit embarrassed at how easy it seems for them to dominate us. 

Just have to accept that we were always going to lose this one and move on.

those statistical drops for positive lingers are extraordinary

his best is still very good, but i guess he's just doing it less frequently?

They just seemed to play a better structured game to us and we have great difficulty in playing against it.

To some extent, our midfield has been spoilt by having Max, who will not always deliver it on a platter, but just does not ever get beaten.
Not sure if they have a Plan B for when the opposition gets the tap?

Yeah maybe! It’s compiled by a lot of stats so if he maintains the majority of them but falls away significantly in 1 or 2 stats, I’d imagine that will send his ratings plummeting. Not an expert so take this with a grain of salt, haha

Look, poor outcome. But those potting the boys, these are the same guys who did well against the bombers last week. But today, were too patchy, gave them far too much room and the mids didn’t do enough unfortunately and put too much pressure on the backline. That said, why did they have so many unmarked guys i50? Anyway, the last few weeks tells me that the bombers are indeed frauds, we are better than them, but nowhere near the dockers sadly. Their bunnies of late. If we scrape into the finals I would not be keen on playing them again.

We need Max back and sorely miss Trac. Not that it would have changed the result as our Alice game proved.

Anyway, gotta focus on beating the Giants. Need to win 4/5.

Fluctuation in form is one thing. But when you’re getting mauled in every “effort” stat that’s another. Smashed in every aspect of the game that is meant to be our DNA. Inexcusable. 

Nobody expected us to win, least of all me, but effort is a non negotiable and so many players have to be questioned on their effort today. And no I don’t mean first year, or second, or even third year players.

I am talking senior players with 100+ games under their belt, letting their opponents waltz out of packs and mark uncontested time and time and time again.
I didn’t care that we got monstered in the ruck, I cared that we had Viney Oliver Salem Nibbler and Sparrow, premiership players with stacks of experience, apply no pressure in the contest. Young, Sarong and Brayshaw may as well have been at a little league clinic today. 

-36 in contested possessions and -31 in clearances, with the lowest clearance numbers recorded since the 90s! That is sky is falling level performance. Or no performance.

Yes I agree but it wasn’t just as a result of Ruck contests where we were beaten, all around the ground they were much more efficient in their ball movement and workrate.

Ok case in point!

meters gained metric

2021 - 417.4 meters gained

2022 - 376.3 MG

2023 - 320.5 MG

2024 - 277.5 MG

So one metric with a big drop off. All the others are pretty much the same.

So 100 meters less in 2 years.

Oliver is a liability. He can’t stick a tackle and gives panic handballs. Unfortunately we have no one else and he needs to play to stay on the rails.

Salem is almost finished as an AFL player. No drive and getting soft tissue injuries. Goodwin needs to show less loyalty here.

Viney is getting found out against the better midfields.

I haven’t given up on the year. Still think we will beat GWS next week. Our whole game is built around Max, so to split the last two games is a reasonable result.

They seem less likely to use Lingers in a major attacking role since the hawks tagged him to great effect 2 years ago. 
Most of the time he is used negatively or as the +1 at the contest, so doubtful if he gets much statistical recognition. 

From the half I saw, it looks like we were mauled in post clearance possession as we were always 2nd to the party. Freo could make up any zone on the fly and run receivers through it, or run out to space.
 

Can’t midfielders tell where the ball is going from the hand/arm of the ruck anymore? You don’t need to stand next to someone else and be reactive to them - you can stand 10m away, even on the opposite side of the contest. As long as you can read the tap and reach the contest zone at speed.

We were beaten by a better side today. It was a frustrating watch, but I think we showed way more fight in the third quarter and had a chance to get back in it. They ran over us in the end, but there were more positives than the Alice match.

So we had no ruck, you can't tell me the tactic wouldn't have been to rove to the opposing ruck, couldn't do it. Smashed in clearance and contest or should I say obliterated. Not hard enough at the contest no tackling pressure, this allowed them to get the ball to the outside far too easily, then they were just off to the races. It takes effort to tackle , Where was the effort from last week. Then we had Lever playing like he was concussed .
