I'm of the mind that if we stay fit, can get over the suns on the GC, then we're in this up to our necks. The WC and Freo losses rocked my faith and then watching Petracca go down I thought all over. The last few weeks have been very good and I just don't see an unbridgeable gap between us and anyone above us. Put us in a Prelim V the Blues and anything could happen. People criticising Goodwin atm......have they missed the fact that he's just turned over our list mid window? I was pessimistic at the beginning of the season because I didn't see it either and maybe my renewed faith is premature but I'm very bullish on the Dee's atm.

emotions.   Up and Down every second week or so.

As intense and emotional as the proverbial  hc.

Go Dee’s. Beat the bummers next week

Absolutely this.  I've been excited by the mid-season rebuild for some time.  I reckon it was after the Freo debacle and then Trac going down that Goody pulled the pin on Billings, Hunter & McAdam and really brought in the kids.

I loved that passage of play where Disco took a great contested mark at HF then looked up to see JVR in the pocket and Fritta in the goal square.  What a problem to have!

We showed plenty against the Lions and now got it done against a team that bullied us in the West.

Although my tips this weekend stank (how even is this comp?), I predict we are good chance to make the 8*.  Even if we don't give it a royal shake, it will set us up beautifully for next season. Lots to be excited about.

Pressure rating 200 for the first quarter according to Wheelo.

Sounds like starting a game with high pressure is important.

For me the beast play was that fast link up through the left wing for a Kozzy set shot 25m in Front of goal.

I believe it was the second quarter, we intercepted the ball just outside our 50. Quick ball movement by our elite kicks, first to JVR then he kicks to Melksham. And then Milkshake pin point precision to Kozzy. Need more of that.

Realistically Jvr could have kicked seven.

Have the feeling we will be talking about this player for years.

He is a star in the making.

His technique is actually very good, I have complete confidence that he will be kicking many bags for years to come.

That play when TMac had about 4 touches, first collecting it in the backline then assisting move it up the ground was incredible to see too.

We look pretty sharp when we move the ball quickly.  In the words of Vanilla Ice: "Slice like a ninja, cut like a razorblade"

van Rooyen is incredible... Schwarz saying the other day we should trade him for Max King!🤣

Will win Colemans in his career which is something Melbourne hasn't had many of!

Tmac is moving remarkably well.

I'd love to see him playing fwd again but I understand he doesn't want to do this.

At least we have Milkshake back in the fwd line.

Not a dig on Petty who has been showing some good signs lately but our fwd line of yesterday with a bloke who hasn't played all year in any level looked so much better.

Jake looked hungry like last year and I'm sure will start to get better and better. Not a big tall is the snake but he certainly plays like one. A very strong player and a very accurate shot at goal from all angles.

He could really be the x factor that sees us playing finals.

Imagine trading a sledgehammer for a feather duster. Ridiculous.

I think Max King is going to be a good player, and is clearly talented, but Roo is going to be just as good and is much more likely to stand up in a big final given how physical he is.

Nothing better than watching him launch at a pack. Love his confidence and his maturity.

I have always loved the Ox but to say trade or only tall fwd when we have been struggling in this area for so long is ridiculous.

We need to hold on to this player with everything we have.

I really believe he is a true generational talent in the likes of Curnow and you simply don't trade them. Not sure what Scwarter was thinking.

In fact Jvr reminds me a little of the Ox albeit a slightly smaller but more nimble version.

We do need a king type player to give Max a hand as I don't like seeing Jvr having to do this.

I'm sure he makes those defenders in front of him a little nervous and second guessing themselves.

Yesterday seemed like he has turned the corner and become a dominant fwd in the comp.

Not too shabby for a bloke his age and experience.

Best game so far from Windsor

Yep... a very good game.  Improving.

One niggle... needs to learn to weight kicks a little better.. .. it's a small knock... but frustrating sometimes when players uoend a good string/passage with a tur over kick.

Again..overall a great game

Yeah if I wasn't convinced before I'm definitely convinced now that he'll be our no.1 before too long.

You'd hate to be backing into a pack with him in it!

Jack Viney needs to give handballs off, his kicking was horrible yesterday and has been for most of the year. Keep it simple is his best option.

Good call. I thought he had been tiring somewhat of late but played his guts out yesterday and didn't seem fatigued at all.

Our connection between the midfield and forward line was much improved and was the key to our big win. We also played with a great balance of down the line and switching.

Our centre bounces were hopeless again, losing 8-18.

Viney’s delivery inside 50 was poor and, on a slow play, it would be better if he lays it off and lets someone else take the money kick.

Oliver was really pants in the centre clearances. He could not hold his tackles and gave dinky handballs which hit the deck. He is liability this year and I would be starting him outside the centre bounce.

Gawn started well, hitting the ball forward, but lost influence.

Lever had a dog day as well, missing a number of easy high balls which he would usually kill.

Rivers has been a revelation for us.

Kossie is in fantastic form. Chandler played well also.

JVR was great but dropped two chest marks and missed two easy set shots.

Good games by Winsor and Langdon on the wings.

TMac was fantastic.

May had a good game.

Tholstrup had a very good game and is clearly a good pick. He does everything well without being outstanding at any aspect of the game. Kicking, marking, endurance, speed and tackling are all AFL standard. I think he is left handed, which is probably an advantage for a right footer.

Melksham returned back to 2023 form immediately. He makes the other players in our forward half better and his kicking is so powerful on both sides.

Woewodin played with good intensity when he came on.

AMW looks a liability out there. I like his intensity and while he is trying to take the safe option, he made quite a few skill errors. I think we look better with Howes in the role.

Bowey and Salem both played good games.

It will be interesting how we get Petty back into the side. Disco is playing well enough to keep his spot. I like the balance of the side yesterday with two talls (JVR and Disco) and two hybrid forwards (Melk and Fritsch).

He has a little bit of agro in him as well which I think we need in a few more players. Not on a nasty way but just to get under the skin of a few Oppo players is always entertaining. How wonderful to see him kick his first goal and even better the team get around him and then better again to see back to back.

We have a good pool of young players in the team that are only going to get better so I'm sure we will be in the mix for the next few years.

This is a very close season. I'm also bouyed by the game of Milkshake who with Jvr, Kozzie and Fritta looks like it can start to kick some decent scores.

Beat Essendon and we are a real chance to make the final eight.

Eighteen marks from Jake the snake and the Roo was a big factor here.

Petty was good too in his last game at being a vital cog in this important connection but sadly lacking in most of his other games.

So without being mean and between the lines, his absence wasn't missed. I just don't believe he's confident playing forward. He is a natural defender and a good one.

So the team is so much better with someone else in that role.

It was a great effort from Jake who is also a very accurate shot at goal.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
