Thank you.

Really appreciate anyone who takes the time to give us a 5 Star Review on Apple Podcasts. And don't forget to click the Write a Review link as well as clicking on the 5 Stars.

I did it on Spotify, hope it helps you guys.

Question:

What's the ideal way to manage BBB?

He can't play every single game of the season, and we need him ready for the finals.

I'd think you have to rest him against lesser opposition. And also try to avoid interstate travel.

When the fixture came out and I saw this block of 3 games leading into the Bye, the Back to Back Adelaide Games and a matchup against last year's Grand Finalists Brisbane I was very worried and thought we'd be lucky to escape with 1 win. My hardwired negativity, which thanks to this podcast I now have a name for, MFCSS, I anxiously feared that we could have lost the lot.

Fast forward to the end of Gather Round and we collected the 2 on the road wins and are facing a Lions team that was toothless in the first few rounds and have finally found a soft Kangaroos outfit to prey on.

Still we can't them lightly. For the most part they still have the personnel that took them to within a claw of having their paws on a Premiership cup.

Their forward line can be potent with their talls, mediums and smalls all capable of finding the big sticks. Their midfield has a dual Brownlow medalist roaming around and they do have a solid defence.

How do we go about capping off a wonderful 3 weeks so that we can sit back and relax during the Bye?

I'm going to cut off the questions here. I think we have a good balance of questions and comments on the match, changes and preview for next week as well as a couple of voicemails from listeners. I will close the thread now so that we don't get any cheeky late comers that throw off the run sheet.

I will reopen the thread before show time (if I remember).

Thank you to everyone who has contributed in the form of these questions and comments. We really do appreciate it. It certainly makes our job easier.

We will be LIVE tonight (Monday) @ 8:30pm

Listened live tonight great show guys. Just want to ask if it is better for the site to listen on Spotify or listen live? Keep up the great work.

I have no idea. I don't really know which gets more listeners Apple Podcast or Spotify because I don't have any metrics for Spotify. I probably cost "listeners numbers" on the app platforms by doing the live show but I like the ability to take calls from Demonlanders. We wouldn't have found @binman otherwise.

Ooh - what was his first call-in episode. I want to dig back into the archives to see if he was always so economical with his words.

I'm not Binman's biographer. You'll have to consult @Binmans PA

Unfortunately, there's an archivist fee, @Chook.

Loading or how I Learned To Love Fitness and Stats: A Binman Story will be on shelves later this year and available at the Demonland shop.

On spotify the sound will be better as Andy cleans it up before loading it up.

But I doesn't make any difference to the DL site as such (I assume you mean traffic).

I like that it goes out live. Feels old school.

It's difficult to say how the algorithms of the podcasting apps work and it's even more difficult when the podcast is extremely niche. That is, the potential audience is finite. We're 1 team out of 18 in 1 code played in only 1 country in the world. Who knows what the potential audience is? Not every Dees supporter is going to be interested in listening to a podcast.

I guess the more listens a podcast gets the more that podcast will get boosted up the algorithm and the more positive feedback we receive in the form of giving the show 5 Stars and writing a review will likely do the same.

Listening on the apps will boost the numbers more than by listening live so I guess having live listeners on the website might take away from that.

Having said that I consider having the show live on Demonland to be a form of advertising as it might get passerbys who are having a browse to listen in for a bit and say "hey I might give that podcast a listen offline" so in effect the live show can potentially bring in new listeners on the apps.

Most of the users of Demonland are readers and not posters. 80-90%. I have met many people over the years who read Demonland every single day but have never posted or even signed up.

Great work calling out Dermott. Can't stand that bloke [removed].

How was the first interaction with binman over the phone?

@binman would love to know more about your stats regarding teams on a shorter break and how that effects performance?

Do you have a % number or something on how many teams with a longer break win the game?

How do you think our 7 day break v Brisbane 6 this week will benefit us?

Nice work gents and ty for the excellent coverage.

If i used Apple or Spotify i'd be hitting the like button (or whatever you do on those things).  The only app i have for music / pods is Amazon but couldn't see anything Demonlandy on there.

I reckon this pod's worthy of a current (or recent... Gus?) MFC player or FD member visit once in a while.

I know Andy's done some great work on player interviews over the years.

I'm thinking more of a regular contributor to the panel who could give us a little inside running (eg; once a month or similar) on his (or her AFLW) views of the last match, the oppo, training drills/loads, how the rookies are handling their first season, quirky aspects / habits of the coaching crew / players etc.

Just a thought anyway.

Thanks Andy, Bin & George OTO and all posters / callers another great listen, all questions full and entertainingly answered with extra great insights thrown in. Very relaxed and upbeat and why not,  the team performed magnificently. Apart from round zero the team is playing so well, I am enjoying watching them perform but can’t quite work out what the change in game plan is, we seem to be able to switch it up against every team.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
