@Whispering_Jack thanks.

Dragons should win and by 5+ goals. Very talented lineup. Numerous stars in midfield, attack and defence. Trainor out but Dragons can cover him.

Faulk and Hannaford will need to kick a bag for the Rebels to get even close imv. It’s unfortunate that Lalor is injured as it would have been interesting with him in the lineup.

That was Reid's goal (Ashcroft's) ...

1/4 time. Dragons. 37.  Rebels. 0.

Ashcroft. Marshall. Sulzberger. Reid. Dominant.  Marshall especially was agile and competed hard. Snagged 2 goals.  Sandy defence was rock solid.  GWVs Ough and Unwin trying hard.

Bang. Ollie Hannaford. Rebels first. Kicked it 55/60 metres👏👏

Dragons 57. Rebels 8

1/2 time. Dragons. 69. Rebels 14. Too many guns for Dragons
Marshall. Sulzberger. Ashcroft.  Again too good. Ashcroft was quieter that qtr but his goal from the boundary showed his skill.  Oliver excelled as did Kirkwood-Scott and Bater across defence. For the overwhelmed Rebels, Hannaford was very good and Ough trying hard.

The Dragons make it three flags in a row with a big victory over the Rebels.

Brisbane father/son sensation Levi Ashcroft kicked three goals and had 29 touches to stamp himself as a likely #1 draft pick in the coming draft. But the Lions have a double bonus coming their way because their Academy prospect Sam Marshall pipped Ashcroft for the best on ground medal with 28 disposals and two goals of his own. Harry Armstrong, a 195cm key forward was strong with four goals while defender Harrison Oliver was a workhorse in defence. For the losers, Ollie Hannaford (two goals) can hold his head high.

Ashcroft has played in all three of the Dragons’ current run of premierships.

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS 6.1.37 11.3.69 14.5.89 16.7.103

GWV REBELS 0.0.0 2.2.14 6.3.39 10.6.66

GOALS

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS Armstrong 4 Ashcroft 3 Buck Marshall Surkitt 2 Reid Sulzberger Travers

GWV REBELS Burmeister Byrne Mast 2 Hannaford McDonald Molan Unwin

BEST

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS Marshall Ashcroft Kirkwood-Scott Armstrong Kennedy Oliver

GMV REBELS Hannaford Ough Unwin Penry Byrne Burmeister

Brisbane are going to finish top 4 and get the number one talent, and another first round player in Marshall via the Academy, 2 years after getting a pick 2 and finishing 4th.

The system needs a major overhaul, because the last 5 years have seen an unbelievable amount of Father/Son talent going to top teams for almost nothing, and then the academy system being an absolute lottery - unless you’re a Northern state club.

Dragons lead easily from start to end. Clearly the guns Ashcroft and Marshall were equal BOG in today’s GF. Marshall showed he’s definitely a round 1 draft pick and the Lions are blessed to get both for 2025 and beyond. Armstrong impressed in bursts. Top 12-13 ranking confirmed for him.  I really liked Harry Oliver’s game.  Solid.  Composed.  Brave. Classy left footer.  Mitch Kirkwood-Scott across half back also impressed. Great kick.  Setup several rebound attacks. Captains Haileybury and has leadership.  He’s just 178cms so that’s hard to judge where clubs could place him.  Ollie Hannaford clearly best for Rebels and will have impressed recruiters.

Here’s a minor overhaul- you can’t be in the Brisbane Academy if you go to Melbourne Grammar and play at Sandy Dragons.

Takes one second to fix that problem.

I know, but when you leave Qld to go to the school that played in the first ever game of footy you don't need your academy any more. Frankly it's double dipping. And makes it hard to say he's a product of the development work Brisbane did.

We should be taking a close look at this kid with the ANB pick. Given his performances since moving from half back to the forward line, and how valuable small forwards have become in modern footy, he may not even be available at pick 25.

Is Riak Andrew eligible to be selected by us an an nga pick this season?

The AFL rules about eligibility are classified as top secret. Not even the CEO Andrew Dillon knows the answer to that question.

Everyone’s favourite journo believes he is (this was dated prior to Mac extending w/ GCS):

Interesting, I would've thought we forfeited any rights to him after passing last year. Sounds like we can list him as a Cat-B rookie if everyone passes? Assume that means we can't match anyone that selects him in the national draft.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
