I think our minds were on finals against the lions. We wonโ€™t be as poor again.

ย Weโ€™ll have enough to beat north but the crows and lions are the benchmark and weโ€™re fallen short against them this year. ย When the heat has been applied we have not responded. Gotta find the desperation we had last year otherwise we wonโ€™t go back to backย

You think for even a second they wouldnโ€™t have a final on TV on a Friday night? Of course they would!

It actually is out of respect that thereโ€™s no matches scheduled for Friday night.

And I wouldnโ€™t say the AFL has nothing to do with it. Ron was a lifetime AFL member and a champion of the VFL/AFL, the inaugural Hall of Fame inductee. Of course the AFL has something to do with it!

Listening to the W Podcast and they're discussing this very thing (why no game fixtured for Friday night). Sam Lane's put this question to the AFL and their official line is that they didn't want to clash with the WBBL game, for which channel 7 is also the broadcaster. Of course, the memorial might have been an additional consideration, and I'm sure you might be in the know beyond the official justification!

For Saturday, they reckon they'll get better live and TV audiences for Adelaide vs Brisbane in the arvo than at night, while they don't believe the timing will have impact #s either way for GC vs Sydney. And also prioritising Brisbane as the higher-finishing travelling team to be able to return home Saturday night.

And while's we're at it, the reasoning for the Sunday fixturing being back-to-back (preventing people from attending both) is to give those four teams relatively equal rest. The AFL questions, reasonably I think, how many would actually do the GMHBA -> Ikon double.

r there tix left does anyone know?

I doubt it will be a sellout (sadly, but then it is the only game in Melbourne so maybe), but I guess give Ticketmaster a go.

As @Craig Tย suggested, you need to get a ticket through Ticketmaster (thoughts and prayers etc.). If you have AFLW membership you need to enter your barcode which you shouldโ€™ve received in an email yesterday morning. If not a member you can purchase from Ticketmaster. $10 per ticket, under 18yoโ€ฆ free entry but they still need a ticket, it will just show $0 at the checkout.

All tickets are GAย

Just got back from training.ย  Excellent news - Paxy took part in full training and seemed fine. ๐Ÿคฉย  Hopefully she'll stay that way!

Maddie Gay and Aimee Mackin started apart from the main group, then joined them for basic ball movement stuff, and then separated again during the final match simulation.ย  They were both moving well with no apparent restrictions, especially Maddie.ย  I had a brief chat with Aimee at the end and though she was a little non-committal about being right for Sunday did say she was tracking well and seemed positive.

Rhi Watt was there but obviously took no part.ย  Gaby Colvin showed up late (either doing some work indoors, overslept or didn't get the email about the earlier session ๐Ÿคฃ), did a few run throughs and then headed back inside, so I don't think she's much chance for this week.ย  Casey Sherriff was wearing the extra large wrist brace, so she's still obviously still having problems and her involvement was limited.

Wow, didn't notice no game Friday, my brain just assumed when I looked at the schedule. ย Better as its 1 more day of rest for our girls after that tough game in Brissie. ย With the week off "fingers crossed". It's good.

Melbourne + finals = injury woes. It seems the men's team have passed on their 2023 jinx to the ladies.

Well that confirms that the AFL have flicked the finals scheduling for a few surprising reasons but not as a result of the RDB funeral earlier in the day. Horses mouth in play here .

Means the GF should be a day event if in Melbourne or Brisbane or Adelaide on a Sat 1st or Sunday 2nd.ย

But by then they could dream up a clash with WBBL or any other event like Sports Car racing at Manangatang on 7 if itโ€™s sport!!

Phew that rules out a Big Bash clash as it doesnโ€™t commence until the 5th December I believe.ย

Over to you AFLW or AFL whoever has more say!!.ย

AFL really have nothing to do with that unless you feel it is a respect issue for the Club.

That could have featured another game if they wanted to.

State Govt and the Barassi family organised the date arrangements for the Memorial service on Friday.ย

I see it as more a sign of respect for the game.ย ย

Gabby is still on rehab, she was doing some strengthening work inside on her achilles before joining the main group.

Boy, you just donโ€™t let sch!t go, do you. Ok, the scheduling of no match on Friday night has NOTHING to do with RDBโ€™s memorial service being on Friday. There! Happy now?

The grand final can only be in Melbourne or Adelaide, not Brisbane.

It will be on Sunday the 3rd of December, not Sunday the 2nd of December coz thatโ€™s a Saturday, but go ahead and dispute that, too. Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll find a way to skew the calendar rather than admit you made a mistake. ๐Ÿ™„ย

The location of the GF will be the highest placed team. ย It could be Brissie but I hope not.
Do we want Brissie to knock of the crows in week 1 of the finals?ย

Youโ€™re right. I got a little confused.

It kinda doesnโ€™t matter who wins out of Brisbane and Adelaide, weโ€™re gonna have to beat one, if not both, to win the big one.

Of course, should we make the GF, the best scenario would be we play whomever at Ikon. If not at Ikon, out of Springfield and Norwood, Iโ€™d hope for the ground at which the players feel most confident.

If we want a home final then Adelaide has to be beaten this weekend or in the prelim.

The Lions winning this week and us getting the job done against NM and then Adel at Ikon would be best.

Should we make the GF it will be at Ikon or Norwood. If Brisbane hosts a GF at Springfield, it wonโ€™t be us theyโ€™re playing. This is because weโ€™ll either meet them in a prelim or weโ€™ll both win our prelims to advance to the GF in which case weโ€™d be the host.ย

Shattered I canโ€™t go on Sunday, had plans booked for weeks ๐Ÿ˜”

(Yet another) example of how grateful the girls are of us fansโ€ฆ

Captain Fantastic Katie PMd the DA today showing this pic of Essendonโ€™s banner last weekend. She wasnโ€™t bagging Essendon, she was pointing out how much she appreciates us.

ย

Now, Iโ€™m not sure if Iโ€™ve ever mentioned it but I hate Essendon with an unholy passion. I hate that club with every fibre of my being, with every atom of every fibre of my being. I hate Essendon so much it scares me. Butโ€ฆ I feel sorry for their W team if this is all they run out to. Shame on that pathetic excuse for a club. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Speaking of banners, weโ€™re hoping to procure the big poles that we use for the menโ€™s banners so as to make a menโ€™s-sized banner for the girls. Itโ€™ll depend on whether we can get the big poles from the โ€˜G to Ikon. I really hope so because the girls certainly deserve a huge banner.

Update: the big poles are now at Ikon ready for Sunday and we just made a full-sized banner for our girls. ย ๐Ÿฅณ YAY! ๐Ÿฅณ

Out: R.Watt (concussion), C.Sherriff (arm), G.Gall (omitted)

ย

So what do we reckon? Can't fit everyone I want in. Just really hoping for no late outs.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
