Looking at the fixture if both clubs are top 4 then your a good chance for a Friday game.

...but C/Wood are away to GC so I wouldn't be surprised to see them take the game. The poor little...don't travel much.

Carlton/Richmond is another if they are up and about.

...but being Carlton, the AFL seem to love them on a Friday night even if the aren't.

I did some analysis and compared the break between games for our first 14 matches with those from last year. While we have two 5 day breaks compared to 1 in 2023, we have a 13 and 12 day break, along with 10 and 9 day breaks in there as well. Last year we had a lot more 6 day breaks, and the pitiful bye period of just 10 days.

I'm interested to see if this helps keep our players fresh during the year, and opportunities for Selwyn to better manage player training loads. Having a large gap between our 1st and 2nd games, and then the gaps between our 6th, 7th & 8th games also allows periods for those with interrupted pre-seasons to catch up on conditioning.

The table shows the breaks between our games this year and last year. The first column is the game number, not the round (because of 'round zero' and our bye after the ANZAC game). The location is for this years game, not last years.

Excellent analysis.

We'll never truly know how much of an impact that pathetic 10 day mid season break had on our 2022 and 2023 seasons but it could not have helped.

The last time we went from a Kings/Queens B'day Monday to the next Saturday week (which is what's happening this year) was 2021 and that worked out quite well.

Meanwhile I would hope we'll stay in Adelaide during our 5 day break and be as comfortable and rested as possible, compared to last year's Gather round travel schedule.

Rounds 16 to 24 include:

Rd 16: vs Brisbane (Gabba) A

Rd 17: vs WCE (MCG) H

Rd 18: vs Essendon (MCG) H

Rd 19: vs Fremantle (OS) A

Rd 20: vs GWS (MCG) H

Rd 21: vs Western Bulldogs (Marvel) A

Rd 22: vs Port Adelaide (MCG) H

Rd 23: vs Gold Coast (GC) A

Rd 24: vs Collingwood (MCG) H

Even if the pies are back to their best, the last 5 games is a pretty good run home.

Four of our last 5 games in Melbourne - with three at the G.

Yes, two games against a likely top 4 team (Port and Giants), but both on our home ground.

The other 3 games against teams likely to battling to get into the 8.

If we want to win the flag we need to beat teams like that anyway (hopefully at the G too).

Can't expect to win a flag if we can't beat the top teams at home and can't rely on an easy run in to finals when you are a successful team that gets dealt harder draws.

best guesses?

  • Rd 16: vs Brisbane (Gabba) - Saturday night on C7
  • Rd 17: vs WCE (MCG) - Sunday early on Fox
  • Rd 18: vs Essendon (MCG) - Saturday night on C7
  • Rd 19: vs Fremantle (OS) - Sunday arvo on C7
  • Rd 20: vs GWS (MCG) - Sunday arvo on C7
  • Rd 21: vs Western Bulldogs (Marvel) -Saturday nite on C7
  • Rd 22: vs Port Adelaide (MCG) - Saturday nite on C7
  • Rd 23: vs Gold Coast (GC) - Saturday twilight on Fox
  • Rd 24: vs Collingwood (MCG) - Friday night on C7

that's a very repucom-friendly fixture to finish the season

No. But there is no doubt that our run into the finals last year took a physical and psychological toll.

Ditto for 2022.

Conversely, our run into the 2021 final, even with the drama of the last round win against the cats, was far less taxing.

Think you've nailed that.

If the Pies are in the hunt, I can't see that round 24 game being anything but Friday night.

The AFL will need weigh up the following Friday night options as follows:

Round 20 - Carlton V Port or Melbourne V GWS

Round 22 - Melbourne V Port or Sydney V Collingwood.

The Eagles game will clearly be an off Broadway Sat arvo or Sun 1:10 game.

Secondly, Rd 16 Friday 28 June we travel to Brisbane but I want to know when for travel purposes.

As far as we know they’re releasing all rounds BAR the final round (Round 24) which is expected to be released in *four weeks.

*Four AFL weeks, not to be confused with four everyone else weeks 🙄

what a top bloke you are WCW ... but i just checked your ID and you are female ... what a woman!

and, hope to see you in The Alice!

@Anti-Saint I think you should commit to the bit and make sure that every post starts with a statement of being anti-saint. Not just new threads.

I would LOVE to be at our Alice match. I’ve not ever been to one. Unfortunately I won’t be though, it’s beyond my means. It’s one of only two matches I won’t be able to attend this season 😭

The final round usually gets released in late July/early August.

You could probably almost bank that Melbourne v Collingwood will be Friday night.

Firstly, I can't stand that mob from Linton St that only TAKES from the AFL (like the crowd from Moorabool that only takes from tax payers and never reciprocates)!

couldn't have The Saint intro as good as it is as I am The Anti-Saint and lets face it attending all of the Dees games in 2024 is Mission Impossible!

Jon Ralph reporting that our game at the Gabba in Round 16 will be the Friday night of that round.

Guess we’ll find out tomorrow when the fixture is finally released.

Yep but he has gone the early crow with tomorrow, other sources are saying the fixture won't be out before Thursday.

One other thing that is almost certain  is that the Dogs game at Marvel in round 21 will be a Friday night because there are three marvel games that week and the other two involve st kilda and brisbane and Richmond and north.

Expect the pies game in round 24 to be a Friday night but only released in July.

Hoping that the games against West Coast, Ports and GWS at the G are a Saturday 2:10 or Sunday 1:10 so that we finally get some red ball footy at the G.

@FearTheBeard in round 18 there’s 3 games at the MCG?

Pies/Cats or Dees/Dons for Friday night?

You’d imagine Pies v Cats would get the Friday night game but apparently Essendon are getting rewarded with prime time slots, so you know??

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
