MCG/AFL should just tell them to get stuffed. It would be good to have it on the screens pre game but trying to dictate to them is ridiculous

MCG website has top of the Ponsford (Q29-Q36) open for GA Kev.

That's the entire area isn't it DZ ie all level 4 is GA.

If so that's brilliant - for me. That's where I want to sit. And I have a GA ticket.

But it means they will be lucky to get 55k to the game.

I believe that is the whole top of Ponsford bin.

I ran into an old friend who now works for the MCG. She was the one that told me our game was expecting 70,000 and tonight’s game was expecting 81,500.

Ta.

Won't be 70 i dont think then.

I can't remember what game it was, a big one last year - the second tigers game maybe.

GA started half way up the top section of the Ponsford, with the rest reserved seats.

And that crowd was 70k

Yes. Dont talk to to corrupt European Sports Goons ie FIFA and IOC.

AFL is No 1  in Melbourne World cup soccer is nothing.  Just dont talk to those sloths.

Easy. No big deal.  Put some highlights of footy games on the big screen or put nothing which is better.

Dont talk to corrupt European sports knobs.

They (MFC v Blue) might have to delay, if extra time and penalties happen.

Just heard the commentators (Gee v Cooly) talk about the game tomorrow.

They will extend the starting time by 5 minutes. So a 7.35 pm start for us.

They will screen FIFA, on all screens (including the big ones), until our match starts. When we start, the small screens will show FIFA (if necessary) and the big ones will be with our game.

I thought it had already been extended from 7.25 to 7.30.  Have they now added another five minutes?

It's bizarre that they've pushed the game time for AFL for another sport.

I was at the Collingwood game tonight.  Certainly helps the Ferals ( although in my opinion they had the game under control from 2nd quarter onwards)

For those of us that can , turn up tomorrow

To be honest I don’t mind - this is a legitimate exception

I don't mind either, I just think it's bizarre. Particularly, with how guarded the AFL are in terms of other codes. It's a huge advertisement for football (️).

Agreed. But on the other hand they’ll get more bums on seats which equals money.

I think the AFL realises that the antagonistic way they’ve treated other codes has been an inefficient use of time and effort. People can enjoy more than one code, but when they make these hard line stances it makes people choose sides and even turns non-hard core fans away.

The image of Barassi punching a a deflated soccer ball on the front page of the Herald Sun during the World Cup bud period didn’t win them any new fans.

This generates good publicity, keeps fans happy, and brings in extra paying customers. It’s a sound business decision.

Let's be honest, it was almost certainly requested by channel 7

Yeah look to hell with it. Show it on the small TV's and plenty of people own a smartphone if they want to watch it during the footy. Big screen is for the footy action and I say this as a big Soccer fan. The times are cutting it fine to begin with, get stuffed FIFA.

Edit: Maybe half-half screen?

You could be right. I don't know the original starting time.

I'll take it as a 7.30 pm start.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
