Agreed. That was so embarrassing.
Don’t boo if you don’t want, but cheering a player who basically checked out mid year is a joke.

I gave him one single clap on his first possession.

Am I fired?

I didn't like the boos he got early but didn't realise he was clapped. that's a step too far.

What was the cheering about? It’s not like it was James McDonald returning after being treated like a Stark in kings landing. Jackson got his plaudits and has his own set of cashed up nuffies out west to cheer him on for sitting the right way on the toilet seat.

Just ridiculous.

Honestly it was so putrid. You’d think he’s some hero of the MFC who captained us for a decade and left to go home because his mother was dying, or worse, got unceremoniously dumped against his will.

He’s a kid who got lucky and won a flag with us and then ran home at the first chance he got. Cheering him was ludicrous.
Him laughing after smashing Gawn straight in the back tells you everything you need to know about what sort of guy he is. An grateful, graceless clown.

Well said, we’re already thought of as the softest fan base in the league, an even greater look clapping a bloke who abandoned our club

Don’t know why a Melbourne supporter would applaud a bloke that “phoned in sick” for the 2022 finals series (average of 8 possessions and 1 mark).

Totally offset his reasonable third quarter in the GF.

There’s no pressing need to boo him, but why applaud the bloke?

Because our supporter base is far too kind and forgiving.

Reminds me of certain individuals on here who get up on their high horse (they know who they are) if you critique a players performance or give an honest opinion on footy related matters because their emotional attachment towards the players gets the better of them.

I don't boo players and most certainly wouldn't have clapped and cheered.

did our supporter base actually cheer him or did the freo crowd just over power us. so embarrassing that a side that just lost by 100+ to the bottom team on the ladder can still have 10k more fans rock up than us

I sat next to a few Melbourne supporters who clapped him. It was cringe.

Our supporters are about as soft as our players.. I hate collingwood fans as much as the next bloke. But geez they generate so much more electricity & energy in a match, which really brings out the teams best.

Not much more to say, other than he was clearly  Best on Ground Today! Over and out!

Interesting stance that the posters on here who complain about people complaining on this forum about people complaining as it’s also ‘their right to complain’ - are the ones that complain about the people who engage in their right to clap a former player. 🤷‍♂️

Jackson took Maxy to the cleaners yesterday at center ball bounces. It was painful to watch.

People can do whatever the hell they like. And other people can find it embarrassing.
You really think clapping him was not ridiculous?

Where was the clapping or great ovation? Before the game? During? As he was walking off? I must have missed it.

On that first possession on the Southern stand flank right in front of me I gave him a single 1-beat clap for his contribution to the premiership and that was it, after that he became a regular opposition player to me.

Personally I thought I nailed the balance.

And other people can have a response to how others responding. And you can have a response at their response and so on.. it’s all very meta. I was pointing out the ‘ridiculousness’ of judging people that clap… it certainly doesn’t sound like you’re ok with people being supportive of an ex player…

I was there and I clapped him,  I also clapped when he sharked the ball and dobbed the goal at the punt road end that was effectively a sealer. He played well and I like to clap good play irrespective of the team or individual that does it.

Greats of the game and society have left the game early due to booing, I’d like to think as a society we have evolved, and I get for some people, football is tribal and means a great more deal to them with the intensity of emotions, than it does in my own life.

Enjoy your Sunday.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
