Thanks Lucy, got a phone call from the Club this afternoon. They needed to verify a couple of things but a ticket into the ground is on the way.

Our crowd for Carlton was pathetic again.

Under 50,000. Our home game. Carlton outnumbered us easily again even though they're a lost cause.

We better show up on Monday.

Are you going?

I’ve got a spare ticket if anyone wants it. I’m going MCC as a guest for the game but have a demon seats membership level 1 if anyone wants it.

No they didn’t, it wasn’t even close.
50k was perfectly acceptable on a cold Friday night with two teams in [censored] form. (12k above our average against Carlton since 1997) Our fan base is very quiet as always but the entire northern stand was red, it just doesn’t seem that way on tv.

In Europe big felllaaaaa.

Constantly being told to show up to games is becoming tiresome, especially from someone who’s currently in Europe.

I think you’ll find he’s a very regular attendee of games. People are allowed to go away and still want others to front up.

Fair enough.

Looked and sounded very pro Carlton. But I understand you were there.

Just hope we show up on Monday, as we know Collingwood will.

Pies have 5 times as many supporters as what we have.  Maybe more

I've lived in Melbourne my whole life and there are Pie fans everywhere.  Demon fans are scarce and I rarely come across them other than when I'm at our games

They will obviously outnumber our supporters

Most of our supporters are members but Collingwood have hundreds of thousands of fans who aren't members (in my opinion)

If we can get about 35k of our own supporters at the game with the Pies supplying 55k, we'll have done exceptionally well on a pro-rata basis

And with Sidebottom & De Goey out, it's advantage Demons

Defence based with a return to our 2021 method.  Do that and we'll have a more potent offence

It's the language used. Think about the way this guy talks. Better turn up! Pathetic!  No need to be such a drama merchant. We get what he means, again, again and again.

Reality is that 50K on a freezing Fri night is not Pathetic.   Just an on line alarmist who wants to be heard. The more likely scenario is that the poster merely wants others to reply and ask if he was there or not to which he can reply with a wry grin that he is abroad. I actually think that is a more apt definition of pathetic than having a crack at a 50K D crowd.

Wanting others to show up to matches while you’re on the other side of the planet is one thing. Complaining about our attendance numbers (calling them “pathetic”) and ending your post with “we (sic) better show up on Monday” is another thing entirely.

Besides, Carlton have way more members/fans than we do. Collingwood, more so. No one should be expecting us to match Collingwood in size and noise level. That’s not gonna happen.

I’m going to go on the off chance we win comfortably and if we do I’m starting a Meeeeeelbourne chant just to stick it up ‘em.

I don't know how many times I need to say this but Friday night fixtures don't draw the way they used to after COVID.
There just aren't the numbers in the CBD. So the typical knock off drinks then on to the Gee aren't happening.

You say that Carlton outnumbered us, what did you do, count them?

Mrs Dw and I werent there and I dont need to explain why to you. Frankly, I'm a bit sick of judgemental ........ people, like you ( funny coming from someone with a high horse).

Before you feel compelled to reply /defend yourself, think on this;

A lot of our members prior to 2020 were over 50 and if you took a straw poll on this site (maybe something Andy has done) you would find that to be true, and they're the tech savvy ones. Those same people are now 3 yrs older and find a 750 start on a Friday night harder to get to. Some of those same people find it tough to take 2 or more hrs to get home and then there is the safety aspect. It's why I've started staying overnight more. With that comes more cost.

Our membership numbers have risen a lot over the last few years. I know of many members who buy a membership for all our home games knowing that they may not be able to attend any/ few games but want to support the team financially. So here is an idea; keep your shoot from the hip comments somewhere they don't offend.

The problem we have had against Collingwood in the past is that most of level 1 ends up being reserved seating and for whatever reason the sound from level 1 sounds best at the ground and is also closest to the broadcasters microphones, so it has always sounded far more pro Collingwood.

this year we have an additional 4 bays of Melbourne only reserved seating on level 1 and these seats were snapped up within three days of being put on sale. There is this misconception by pessimist like Old Dee that there are going to be 70,000 Collingwood supporters on Monday and 15,000 of us.   This is [censored]. We have approx 13k reserved seating areas which will be full, the MCC will be 75% Melbourne (approx 16k) plus around 30% of reserved seating will be bought by us (aligned with Anzac eve). This excludes the minimal support we have in the afl reserve and the small amount of GA areas that people have purchased tickets to.

by my reckoning there will be at least 35k Melbourne support on the day hopefully judging 40k. Yes there will still be more of them and they are a hell of a lot louder, but we will still turn up. We haven’t had a QB home game at the g for 5 years too.

It's quite incredible how our own supporters fall-in to the ridiculous narrative that we don't turn up for games

I'd like to know where all these supporters who don't go to games are?  I don't know any Demon fan who doesn't attend games

Seriously, the city of Melbourne is full of supporters of the big 4 clubs (Pies, Tigers, Bombers & Blues)

It's a total myth that there are thousands of Demon fans that are fair-weather.  It's total BS.  Rot.

And the ratio of members who attend games is about the same percentage for all clubs

Again, the Pies have 5 times as many supporters as what we have ... they are everywhere.

So they (by rights) should outnumber us 5 to 1 at our clashes.  But that never happens ... it's more like 2-1

We’ll be there, win or lose. But yeah, if we win, that chant will cop a hiding!

It’d be awesome after last year’s insufferable train ride home, me and maybe four other Dees supporters crammed into a carriage full of black n white Neanderthals doing that chant the whole time. 🤮

Of course Collingwood supporters will outnumber us on Monday, but its quality not quantity that counts.

I'm so sick of hearing from people who are obsessed about crowds. I couldn't give a stuff anymore, if people want to come they can and if not they can please themselves.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
