Sigh.  Good Friday.  Is there a more boring day on the calendar?

You're probably just hanging around, maybe feeling cross.

It's time to resurrect your spirits with another brainteaser.  Can you nail it?  Who will get the chocolates?

I've made this one very simple as I have no wish to crucify you.  You don't need to be an egghead to crack this one.

Incidentally, I once tried breeding Easter bunnies and I have to say that the little eggs they lay don't taste anywhere near as chocolatey as they look.

What do the players in the following team of Melbourne luminaries have in common?

Answers in a PM only, please!

B:        Steven Febey     Matthew Warnock     Brad Campbell

H/B:    Troy Longmuir     Nathan Carroll     Jack Grimes

C:        Ed Langdon     Angus Brayshaw     Cale Morton

H/F:    Shane Braddy     Ben Holland     Aaron Davey

F:        James McDonald     Allen Jakovich     Shannon Motlop

R:       Glenn McLean     Nathan Jones     Paul Goss

I/C:     Ray Holden     Anthony McDonald     John Reid     Stephen Wearne

What's so good about Good Friday? Let's see a quiz on that!

Now onto the real quiz, wish me luck.

Will anybody else join the BBB (brotherhood of brainteaser boffins) aka the FFF (fraternity of foresightful fans) to earn themselves a virtual ovoid chocolate?

As mentioned above, this is probably the easiest teaser I've ever posted.  Have at it!

Oh brother give me strength,  I have just played my first game of pickle ball, hilarious when siblings try to outdo each other! So I sit down to this brainteaser, now my brain hurts like my aging muscles.

I believe the word is bother. Nonetheless, on a random factoid - Dire Straits had an album, which if I recall correctly was the first commercially released CD to sell a million copies.

What does the phrase oh brother mean?

expression of frustration, disgust, disbelief

used as an expression of frustration, disgust, disbelief, or incredulity.

Oasis also fits. AC/DC. Jackson 5. INXS. The Rolling Stones, if you stretch it, would fit.

The Everly Brothers would fit. But the Righteous Brothers would not. Nor would the Walker Brothers.

Now that's a glimmer of a hint.

The Australian Test match side during the 90s would also fit, right?

What is pickle ball? It sounds like fun.

In case anybody was still wondering, the answer is that all the players in my team had or have a brother who played or is still playing at VFL/AFL level.

Congratulations to @WalkingCivilWar and @layzie for filling fifth and sixth place respectively.

Happy Easter everybody.  Forget Good Friday, I think Demon fans are in for a Very Good Sunday.

whatever you do, don’t give any of those small eggs to Jesus.

they’ll keep falling through his hands

DS, would I be right in thinking that if you dropped out S Febey for someone like Ron Baggott or a D Cockatoo-Collins it would be a team that had a brother who played at the level for a club other than Melbourne?

You could also include Damien Gaspar and Luke Ottens in that category.  I left them out of my team because I thought they would make the answer too obvious.

Norm Smith could go in as captain/coach!

Looking at Gaspar/Ottens reminds me that while we have had the better brother at times, we’ve probably been on the wrong side of the ledger over the decades in terms of having the better/best brother, unless we had both (eg, the Flowers). Brayden Maynard the current standard-bearer. An interesting category!

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
