it's the second time we've avoided a blow out in losses

with the d50 transition scoring, i can't believe how easily we allow teams to exit d50 - our set-up defensive zone would appear to me to have moved back a contest compared to earlier in the year

Yes - and i have zero doubt it is because of fatigue (accumulative and increased load).

Thanks DD provides great insight to our performance, Team Rating says it all 19% drop off and top 6 down 11% can’t win games with that type of performance. Disappointing really.!!!

The AFL ap had us scoring 4 points from defensive half chains and Geelong scoring 33 points. Is there a discrepancy?

Rivers had a whopping 12 intercept possessions (only bettered by Lever who had 14 - Rivers had +3 more than the next best), 6 score involvements and only 3 turnovers from 25 disposals. He seemed to be playing 1+ in front of our defenders. Floated across in front of packs multiple times. Played a very good game, I thought. One of his best. If he'd nailed that goal, it would probably have been his best game.

The stats I posted were scores from defensive 50 and corridor (centre square extended to the two 50m arcs), not defensive half. When I look at the stats by half instead, I also get 33 points to 4.

I've been critical of his disposal, but he was excellent the other night. And his form overall has been strong IMO.

Some nice highlights there thanks AF.  Yes i've also been critical in some matches where i felt his VG work was being under mined by some horror turnovers in the worst parts of the ground.

I wasn't in any state to take notice of anyone's game in particular on Thurs night but it looks like a number on here are seeing this one of his best.  The turnover count is down as you have highlighted which is great to see and the part of his game that needed tightening up.

As Bin mentioned this would appear to be a break out year for the young defender with a big improvement on his 2022.

Taking a bit of a look at his best ratings so far (discounting the Eagles game a little given the way they've been traveling)...

Rnd 4 vs Eagles >  5.550 (ranked 2nd behind Clarry)

Rnd 9 vs Hawks >  5.150 (ranked 1st ahead of Clarry & Tracc)

Rnd 13 vs Magpies >  3.675 (ranked 4th behind Viney, Salem & Gus)

and of course this latest result which you have highlighted.

Yes DZ.  A few stuck their hand up and actually out-performed but you can't cover that many being way off their usual output.

The theory that the shorter break for us might actually assist didn't hold up on the night.

Geez, reality bites. Those inside 50 and shots at goal stats are incredible.

Round 16, 2023 TIO Traegar Park - Demons vs Giants

Much effort made by many only to result in a shocker forward of center (again).

At least 12 of the 22 a long way off their season averages and those averages include last week's poor outcome.  Some of them a mile off.  A few others holding up their end.  Viney, Bowey & Lever.  Petty a much better result vs his come back last week.

6.8% of inside 50s into goals has to be some sort of low record for us and the AFL surely.

Top 22 Team rating off the season average by a massive 18% tells the tale.  Highly unlikely you will beat many teams at all in that sort of form.

Big lift needed by many but also some signifcant ins/outs are needed.  Goodwin needs to reward those performing at Casey starting this week and consider a number of difficult cuts to some of the regulars that are usually automatic inclusions every week who just aren't performing and in some cases significantly under-performing of late.

I suspect a fair chunk of that rating (aside from poor form from a number of players) lies with the inability of some/many to handle the wet / greasy conditions plus the disconnect / inefficiencies forward.

Of all the teams that have had 70+ inside 50s since 1998, yesterday was the outright lowest goals scored. Previous lowest was 6 goals. Conditions probably worse than most other 70+ inside 50 games, but still!

I only went back to 2012 for inside 50 conversion, but North Melbourne scored 1 goal from 34 inside 50s against Geelong!
