After last night I'm even more disappointed with us. Brisbane had no right to be there and we are a better team. They are a joke and I hope they rot on the grapevine.

They had every right to be there , they beat us on our home deck in a semi

The interesting part will be to see how they manage the transition of their midfield. Selwood, Duncan, Guthrie, Paddy, Smith are 30+ and provide experience and consistent performance.

Next rung down is Parfitt, Narkle O'Conner who are clear downgrades.

Cooper, Knevitt, Bruhn* have had limited exposure and will be inconsistent for a number of years still. Holmes has performed well but is receiving protection from their experienced hands. You can see why they were targeting Hopper, who at 25, would provide experience and consistency.

I watch and hope for their downfall but have learnt not to hold my breath.

Selwood, Hawkins and Dangerflog may skew the age profile but irrespective they have been 3 outstanding players for Geelong. Their replacements will not be of the same calibre. Smith as well has had a brilliant career. These players will leave a big hole when they're gone

Those players won't all go at the same time.

Also, Geelong have shown they will target a player and get him eg Cameron and it is reasonable to assume they will continue to do that when they have specific need.

They didn't get Hopper because to match the Tigers offer they had to abandon their player contract structure.  They figured their would be another player like him before too long.

Selwood...kicker, pusher and stager.

Hawkins...stager,pusher and sucker

Danger..."general all-round award" winner though good footballer, like Trac though kicking could improve.

All three, instinctively look at umpires as do all wobbles for frees.

Brisbane would be well and truly ashamed of themselves.Long way to go there.

I’m a bad sport, I’m not watching the Granny & couldn’t give a flying f@#k who wins it

I turned to the lady sitting next to me last Friday night " n the third quarter"  and said even if we win we won't go any further. In a weird way going out the way we did might even help this team get better.

I'm pleased to see when morning comes around that there are some supporters who arnt totally delusional.

Last night the only thing stranger than BT was people here calling BOTH teams crepe and how if it wasn't for umpires and the  AFL we would have  beaten them...easy!!

Well you don't really like football then.

Anyway this arvo will likely be the one to watch.

And not barracking actually makes good football great

No I definitely agree, one win against a wounded side and flunking out in pathetic fashion in a prelim is magnificent. Well done Brisbane, you deserve all our credit.

Same. Didn't watch last Saturday either. Parra still in NRL so focused there.

Yep every team that finished above Melbourne beat them or at least beat them when it counted.

The Dee's had no right to finish higher than 5th

Make all the jokes you want but ...

Geelong have been exceptional this year and recruited well in the off season but there have been reasons for this rise in performance.

It is [censored] embarrassing to the whole competition, to our whole club for the way we managed this season.

The AFL for gifting them such a user friendly draw and so many games at that hole of a ground in the back end of the season.

They played North and W.C 2x nice little time to play bruise free without going in hard taking the knocks.

Given ample opportunities to rest so many players strategically throughout the course of the season still being able to maintain continuity against weak opposition.

If you want to take shots i suggest you just go and look at there last 13 games of the season. The proof is in the pudding.

No club should be afforded such luxuries knowing they have give me games to coast through without putting there bodies on the line.

Tell me if this is fair dinkum from the powers that be?

They have been handed this Premiership on a silver platter.

They wouldn't want to [censored] it from here.

Ok but riddle me this: A lot of people think we underperformed this season. So how can we, a team that made top 4 twice in 2 seasons with a flag be more of a faker than a team that has top 4'd 3 out of 4 years with 2 prelim appearances and no flags? It's backwards.

Give Brisbane credit but not too much, brilliant win last week but how do you explain their performance last night? Fagan 3 wins and 6 losses in finals, serial chokers on the big stage. For the talent this side had they stunk up the joint.

Zorko after the game. "We'll go over in the pre-season, have a really good look at it and see how we can get better and back next year … we can't sweep it under the rug".

I'm hoping we learnt from 2018 and reviewed last friday night to see what we did wrong. It's obvious to us supporters but I still find it astonishing after our 2018 prelim disaster the team and Goody didn't review it.

Well they'll probably go through the same review process from last year, and the year before, and the year before..

Brisbane do not have a defensive bone in there bodies, will not win nothing with the way they play.

Only taken 4 years to figure this out too but hey the diddums 'deserved' to be there last night.

Getting more than zero disposlas in an easy  junk time last quarter would be a start for Zorko to improve. BT and the team were calling out at 3/4 time for someone in Lions side to stand up leadership-wise and say " ..come with me..."  Like Selwood, Viney, Pendles, Bont, Cotchin etc...."

Guess that ain't you Dayne.

Yeah, I changed Mean to Median just after I posted.

I found this for you.  Games played rather than the entire list.   I think it is for 2022.

But the author could be a bit confused as it refers to Average Median which doesn't compute.  Now that I think about it it could be for all games played this year..

Thanks for this, but like you I don't know what an Average Median is either. (and I have a maths degree).

I think I might look into this for the Dees and see what our answer is.

The players knew the way they were playing they would have been humiliated against the ferals.

Our season in hindsight was down the toilet once Tmac went down and did not address it with different options.

BBB and Gawny were holbling around in the 2nd half of the season in the F50 against 3 defenders in seperate marking contests, we had no plan B or C that could function to 2021 levels, well we did but did not explore those options. (Petty and JVR)

This is what we need to focus on the most along with the drafting of a future key forward or under 25 y.o, fitness/ adequate resting for the players optimal performance for this time next year.

JUST IN | We're hearing there have been delays and cancellations for some flights from Melbourne to Sydney today. Collingwood President Jeff Browne is one of the passengers impacted and is currently stuck in Melbourne.

Gee you'd be annoyed. Although it gives me a chuckle.

Sir swampthong needs to learn something about statistics.

More enlightening would be the MEDIAN age of teams. Cats with 3 outliers in Hawk, Selwood and Danger screw this data.

Does anybody have this info?

Sir Swampthings grasp of maths for analytical reasons is less than useful (IMO) and he should have quoted the MEDIAN.

I have done the calcs, and it points an even worse picture for the cats age group. And thus puts to bed the lie of being aged and thus poorer for it.

The MEDIAN age of last nights Cats team is 29 years 150 Days. (he quotes the av as 28 years 173 days - that may be so but is meaningless anyway) So this tells us the Cats have HALF their team 30 years or older. Huge effort by  an' ageing ' list.

By comparison, the Dees median for the team that played last week is 26 years 255 Days. So only half our team is over 26 plus years.

We have 3 years on them thus our list can retain its shape for longer now.   Hence why the cats have 10 new palyers in from last years PF and are actively recruiting to fill retirement gaps coming up.

And in addition, the team I really rate as our main threat in 2023 to the next flag, the Swans, have a Median age of 25 years 0 days.

or 1 and 3/4 years younger than us. And if you take out Buddy that median drops by a whole 1 year. Thus Half their best 22 are 24 and under. Scary.

Poor Sydney, they have been descended upon by the rif raf of the Collingwood fans.

Lets hope they come home flat & disappointed

I did notice that apparently two million Victorian viewers turned off after half time including hundred thousand cats and Brissie put their beloved human murder game back on.

So well done AFL couldn't provide a decent game for half weekend so far.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
