TRAINING: Monday 8th August 2022

Featured Replies

11.30 am start.

Plenty in runners, so expecting some running.

Sparg's, Viney and Kossi (with his knee taped) have light duties.

No BBB,

Rehab has, Tmac, Rosman and Moniz-wakefield.

Same as last Monday, on for 30 minutes, mainly running with a casual kick for goal, then back to the sheds.

I think Kossi will be good, though was favouring his taped leg.

The rehab group is still working hard.

Hopefully a lot of work on forward connection.

And even more on closing up the shop to everyone.i think it's important now.

How was everyone looking spriit wise? I'm sure they were just as annoyed as us.

Very upbeat, it was a beautiful day out there.

All were talking in there small groups as they did laps.

When I applauded a few as they went around, I could see them say (body language wise), we don't deserve that!

Its imperative they move on. So good on them.

Move on to the dolls and the needles

Why wouldnt you take Spargo, Tracc and ANB and a few others for 2 hours of goal kicking and drill a set shot routine into them?? Astounding!

I agree, the drill was completed at there own pace and without any supervision.

Would love it to be done with an expert giving immediate feedback to them. They need it.

You can see them looking around for assistance when they do howlers.

Oliver couldn't hit the barn door this morning,  same with Bowey till he adjusted, then went on to try and kick the miracles (reverse bananas from the boundry), Sparrow also needed some resets till he got it going.

Are they still loading?

The work they did was more about running the cobwebs out, and not for pushing the body.

Because for those down on goal kicking form, it might be between the ears and not a technical issue. Repetition at training isn’t always the solution. They all know how to kick a goal.

Ruthlessness is a mindset, not at technique.

Doubt it. I reckon the fans feel it more. I mean I'm never smiling after a loss.

Ruthlessness is a mindset, not at technique.

In some cases it's poor technique. Those that are hook foots, struggle with set shots within 40 metres. It doesn't impact their field kicking, because it gives them power and they have a greater margin for error. Max is the worst offender, and Trac is next. Salem is also a hook foot, so I'd rather him taking a shot from 50m than 35m.

Choco Williams has that special footy with the line up the middle which should eradicate the hook foots. Max and Trac should be practising their goal kicking with it.

BBB and Fritsch have excellent techniques, but unfortunately have to take low percentage shots from the forward pocket. JVR also has an excellent technique, and it's just a shame that our match committee are too stubborn to play him.

ANB and Spargo are technically sound, but ANB's confidence is shot, and Spargo lakes penetration over distance with his kicking. Repetition at training won't help them.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
