i thought that guy was a legend and was hoping that he would play again when the players took the feild for the 3rd quarter.

it was a great moment he started playing the song and slowing people started to clap to it and then at the end of it a cheer went up! i thought it was great :)

also i thought all the supporters who were there today tried to make some noise to lift the team and that was great!

didnt go yesterday but i'd be bloody embarassed with this stupid trumpet guy playing... i have heard a similar one before near Richmond station who plays after the game if we win.. bloody ridiculous.... makes us look more and more like toffs if anything... get rid of it asap.... as bad as the roar meter from richmond?

There are a trumpet and saxophone player that play at all MCG and Telstra Dome games. Before the game, they continuously swap between the two teams theme songs that are about to play, and at the end of the game, they're just playing the theme song of the team that one. I've never given them a cent, but they do add a certain 'colour' to the whole entering the ground experience. So they're not strictly Melbourne people. As for the trumpet guy, I don't mind him. It may get a bit tired by round 22, but for now he's OK...

A bit harsh there mate.

All he was doing was providing a bit of light entertainment.

And at least you could hear his trumpet...unlike the apalling MCG PA system that was on display yesterday.

The trumpet guy was terrific! He really got me going for a game I was going to be utterly indifferent about, considering our season and chances.

The key is for him to only play it about a further four times this year so we don't get sick of it. Surprise us with it once in a while to keep the crowd appreciation on a high.

ohh i just thought he was a melbourne supporter trying to lift the spirits of the crowd....i thought it was nice how most people clapped...

The trumpet man got me really fired up and that rush was well amplified by Davey running on and kicking a goal.

I think that as long as the trumpet man stands in the stands and plays the song just as the boys coming running out, it will work. Well, for me at least.

I hope the club peserveres with the trumpet man.

I would imagine that as he keeps on trumpeting, it is really going to irk the opposition supporters - bring it on!!!!!!

I thought it was awesome

A great instrument, and a great tune!

I thought it added to the atmosphere, and considering how little there was, we needed every bit of it. It also got the crowd more fired up, at least it did for me.

Go the trumpet man.

Just like the English trumpter who played here last summer. Certainly provided atmosphere even though england lost. So keep playing trumpet man and do not let officals try to get you out.

Absolutely agree. No need to over do it. Hopefully he is about when we are marching into the finals. Then it will be fantastic.

He should definitely play Queens Birthdays, that would be friggen awesome. Hopefully this will become a thing for the MFC, a way of uniting the fans.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
