Why would we do that? Best case is saints finish last and that pick would only give us 55 without any fs or nga bids. Doesn’t make sense

Agree makes no sense whatsoever🤯 plus dont we have to take 3 players??

We simply don't rate anyone remaining, and would rather push the pick to next year, even at the expensive of a few spots, than waste it this year

Taj will be our last player selected tonight so we are turning picks we wont use into more currency to play with next year.

We could have taken Williams with the pick we traded, giving us a Hawkins type who can ruck a bit as well as key forward.

Andy M-W looking likely rookie and If no one picks Taj he could then be another. Are we looking at a ruck forward type in maybe Caminitti, or however you spell his name?

Interesting to see the plan.

The draft is saying Williams might be more a Pederson or Sellar than a Hawkins.

I think we’ll add Woey to the main list, AMW to the cat b and still take another rookie. Be it at the draft or after a summer training session

You have as many picks as you have list spots. We still have one spot left. Therefore we still have a pick.

But why do you give away a higher pick this year for a known lower pick next year?

But we dont have anymore picks do we??

We can get him without using a pick at the end of the draft if no one nominates him. Otherwise we can use next years picks as a draft deficit if someone does.

Don't worry he is a Melbourne player.

With what pick? Not sure it exists.

Rookie draft

Because we know we have him already. We don't have the list spots so may as well trade the picks into next year, which may or may not be useful. I'm sure Adelaide's future 3rd will be ok.

We don't need a pick. You have to draft 3 players. He has nominated Melbourne. He will automatically be a Melbourne player at the end of the draft.

Our 5th rounder, it’s back from the dead after we traded our 3rd and 4th

Think WC disagree. Would have seen a bit of him.

The Eagles love loading up on talls. I remember similar disappointment when they took big Bailey Williams. He’s handy, but not big enough to really ruck at AFL level and I’m not sure the athleticism is there to make a quality forward.

You're getting too caught up in the number of the picks.

We will take Woewodin as our last selection (rightly or wrongly).

So we either use 51 on Woewodin and be done for the night, or we gain future capital for next year and pick Woewodin up at the end of the draft.

We now own 2x 3rd rounders and 2x 4th rounders for next year. Should help facilitate more trades or draft movement in 2022

Its like a rookie upgrade at the end of the draft. It just happens as the last pick.

Do we have any picks left tonight ? Thats my question??

Fair enough but it can be confusing. I thought if no one nominated Taj and Andy M-W we could take them as Rookies saving money and keeping a senior list spot.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
