2019 Draft Re-Ranked

Simon Dalrymple at the Dogs and then Sydney might be the only one I rate above Taylor purely for having the same level of huge success with early picks (Bont, Stringer, Macrae, Naughton) and then some more late round gems.

Taylor’s been freakish in the first and second round but surprisingly colder with late round picks.

The other clubs who have done really good jobs lately are Port, Brisbane and also GWS since Sos left.

Good points DS ... you'd know more about this than me.

Sydney with their academy has an advantage ... they can identify at a younger age than the drafting age

And the proof is in the pudding with the Doggies ... lots of good young players on their list (over time)

Who is the head of recruiting at Richmond?  He'd have to be up there as well

He's a stager and quite dislikeable but Weightman should be higher in that list

Only if the list was done by the umpiring fraternity

It was our former list boss and Demonland’s own CAC - Craig Cameron - for the build that won them their first flag in 17.

Who would have thought

Did he leave us before the end of the 2008 season?

Given this was actually the 2019 draft.

...in the 2020 draft Bowey would probably be re ranked in the top 5 and could be argued the new number 1 after his 7 games.

Agree. Only known weakness is sometimes he chooses to spoil with his head…

Cameron was head of football in the early 10’s but their recruiting back then was a handful of superstars - Dusty, Cotch, Riewoldt, Rance and a bunch of terrible picks.

Francis Jackson was their head recruiter and missed on a lot of picks.

Blair Hartley has been their list manager for a decade and the main architect of their list according to tigers fans I’ve spoken too. Jackson moved in to a part time role in 2015 and their recruiting under Matt Clarke since has been far better.

Wasn't Dan Richardson in there somewhere...?

Sandra Sully thinks the thread title might need a change.

Took over from Craig Cameron as head of footy for a few years until they realised they needed Balmey.

And Matt Clarke was at the Demons from '97 to '08 according to a link I found

Been at the Tigers for nearly 13 years in multiple roles (?)

Something tells me the mods are still drunk after our GF win!?

Hell . . . a few clubs had a complete and utter mare in the 2019 draft. Cameron Zurhaar in the rookie draft is looking like potentially a good pick.

they rated Bowey #4  (2020) and Clarrie #1 (2015) and Tracc #1 (2014)

Who is “they”?

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
