Geez they are pretty average.  I guess stats will say whatever you want them to.

The matter of stats website has us as premiership favourites with a 30% probability of winning. I’ll take that!

Doesn't seem any more insightful than if you got a few random people sitting around a table talking it out.

The trouble is the weighting of the stats according to position - which is done on the basis of a few people sitting around a table talking it out!

Nic Nat AND Tom Hickey over Gawn is a good example. There's no doubt that Naitanui and Hickey have both excelled at the ruck-specific duties with hitouts to advantage or clearances and so on, but Gawn has them both covered for other areas of performance including marks, contested marks, marks inside 50, intercept marks, intercepts total, meters gained, rebound 50s, and even the simple fact of being on the ground 90% of the time denying opposition long kicks or drawing an opposition defender.  You wouldn't swap Gawn out for either of them.

It'll probably also keep Luke Jackson out of some statistically determined teams, too. Assuming he carries on his current trajectory, he will (statistically) be an excellent ruck, excellent key forward and excellent half-forward/utility, but not be the 'best' in any specific one of those positions.

Statistics are dumb because people are dumb and then they put things in numbers and forget that they were dumb back when they did it.

Zero % of experts thought we wouldn’t even make finals based on stats

bah!

Just goes to show how meaningless statistics can be.  No Steven May in either team makes the whole rating thingo a joke.

Are they serious with the backline of the second team 😲

Never understood why people get so triggered by Champion Data. Their job is to to create, collect and provide stats. They do a bloody good job if it really, but some seem to think they 'get it wrong' or have no idea, but numbers don't lie, it's the context people don't get. They're just doing the stats and providing numerical analysis based on the stats.

You’re the one getting triggered.

Others are only providing an opinion.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
