Zurich Recommits Until 2023

Seems to be as strong a sponsor as we have had for some time - to cover both AFL and AFLW shows that Zurich truly sees the value in our relationship. Our leading community programs and players (i.e Nev Jetta) help differentiate us from other clubs.

Anyone know who has been our longest serving main / principle sponsor?

Good Question! I seem to remember Drake being around for a while back in the 80s or 90s??

Certainly won't be Energy Watch !

According to http://www.footyjumpers.com/melbourneS.htm, seems Drake at 6 continuous years between 1985 - 91 are currently the longest serving principal sponsor, with LG & Mayne Nickless at 5 years. Zurich would be close to the longest sponsor if they end up renewing again after 2023.

Good news, funny how things get easier when you are sitting on top of the ladder.

Would that be Drake? They were on board in the 1980's through to 1991.

1992- Snowy mountain spring Water

1993 - Pioneer Homes

1994 to 1997 - Tooheys

1998 to 2003 - LG

2004 to 2008 - Primus

2009 to 2011 - Kaspersky and Hankook

2012 to 2013 - Opel & Webjet

2014 - 2017 - AHG

2018 to 2023 - Zurich

We got a good run out of LG in the late 90's/early 2000's.

How are we going to fit them into the cap? They won't come cheap.

Wouldn’t worry; just here for insurance…

Was going to ask how long Tooheys was on board, thanks. Hertz have been around for a long time. I had a training jumper in the mid 80s with Hertz across the front.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
