favourite win: vs tigers on anzac eve, even tho i think the wins over footscray and the bears were bigger in the context of the season

one in game highlight: kosi ducks, kosi weaves, kosi goals (rd 2 vs aints)

other random highlights: viney goal after about 20 seconds in rd 2 vs aints, having full confidence that lever will mark everything that comes near him, ben brown's first lillee-esque run up and goal...oh, and also winning the first 9 games of the season!

Thanks wwsw.

Another topic we will be discussing - al thoughts welcome:

Players

  • Top 5 in the bluey (based on similar criteria as the bluey ie not just the best on 3,2,1 voting)
  • Most improved - other than Tmac!

Top 5 in the Bluey: Oliver, Gawn, Petracca, Lever, Salem

Most improved (other than T Mac): in order, i'd go Pickett, Lever, Salem - they've all gone from very good players to at least all oztrayan squad of 40 inclusions

If Demonland Posters would like to answer these questions we'll read some of them out on the show on Wednesday Night.

Favourite win - Can’t split Anzac Eve and the Sydney victory.
Anzac Eve, special occasion, big crowd and Jonesy’s 300th. Tigers brought the heat early and we took over quickly.

The Sydney game, probably the most brutal and physical match I’ve seen us play in this year. High pressure and they challenged us all night, both sets of supporters were loud and it was a terrific atmosphere.

In game highlight - T Mac’s left foot goal against the Swans after bursting out of a pack.

Random highlight - Salem’s overall game against the Saints. He was simply brilliant that night.

Favourite win: vs Bulldogs because that followed the loss to Adelaide therefore many fans were expecting (and accepting) a loss to the Dogs was on the cards.
My personal favourite moment: vs Carlton, Kozzie gesturing the touched goal. Honesty and integrity right there.

Favourite Win

Comeback against Brisbane - was so very un-Melbourne like in that it was a clinical and measured comeback correcting deficiencies at half time & going 11 wins mid season on a Friday night was pretty special feeling post match. Said a lot about the maturity of the group.

one game highlight

Trac’s goal early in the last against Richmond - was very Dusty like !! Hoping he can do stuff like that in September

other random highlight

Kozzie’s 2Q goal against the Saints - looked great on TV loved the curl on the ball as he snapped it

Favorite win: Has to be the win against the bulldogs for me. With that win I started to have confidence in the team and the players. There were (and still are) a lot of questions being asked of us and with each winning game we answer more of the questions.

Game Highlight; TMac's goal against Brisbane after the best in close buildup work I have seen from the Demons. Love the movement and handballs that worked to get the ball free and moving forward from the wing. The goal was icing on the cake.

Other random highlight: the quality and consistence of Salem's games. He has always had the talent and ability but this season he has really put it all together.

Top 5 in the Bluey: Petracca, Oliver, Gawn have to be in that group but after that there are more than a few that could fill the last two spots. Lever, May and Salem in defence. Langdon from the wing has to be in the discussion. In the forward 50 you might get TMac or Fristch sneaking in.

Most improved: again, a few that could be in the discussion. Rivers is on a steep improvement arc for me as is Spargo. Charlie does not get a lot of the ball at the moment but puts in a lot of work putting pressure on the opposition defenders. When he does have the ball in hand he uses it very, very well. His game compliments Pickett's nicely.

Another great podcast.  Thanks to Andy, George and bin for their entertaining and enlightening analyses, well as to Axis of Bob for his input.

Thanks dee - you need some stamina to get to the end of it but it is important to use the mid season bye to get some solid training loads in to prepare for the rest of the season.

Go redlegs

Superb, fellas. Thanks for that.

Top 5: E.Langdon, T.Mac, C.Oliver, C.Petrraca, J.Lever.

Most Improved: Dead Heat J.Jordan/C.Spargo

Could have listed 3-5 more players in the mix for the Bluey, Notably Max would by his own admissions agree he has not been anywhere near his best this season.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
