And this is precisely why the grand final should be in Adelaide rather than Perth - less onerous border rules but still able to have roughly the same crowd at an equally excellent venue.

You have heard what South Australia are doing to the returned Olympic Athletes who have done their 14days quarantine in the NT and are now having to do another 14 days.

If Victorians can travel to WA for a final with a PCR and vaccination, then surely one could apply the same criteria to a game at the ‘G?

You can only attend if you have a PCR test taken within say 72 hours (and/or a rapid antigen test at the gate; otherwise almost all PCR testing capacity would need to be allocated for footy goers) and a full vaccination certificate. 
 

Sure, those under 40 who can only now access AZ would probably miss out (given time gap between doses), but they’ve got 30+ years to wait for the next MFC premiership 😁

    Similar things were said last year, when we were travelling well.FCS there are no guarantees with this pandemic.

    If we can win one this year I’m taking it, whether it be at the G, Gabba, AO or Optus. But I want to see the Dees win it in front of the biggest crowd possible and I’m sure the players would want to win it in front of a full house given the option

    I’m quite comfortable in the boys putting in a gallant prelim performance (as opposed to 2018) and then going one step further next year at the home of footy.

    You’re actually selfish and there’s no guarantee you will be able to go next year either.

    Every response and comment you have made on this topic is about you being able to get to the game and nothing about just wanting what’s best for the team and players you support.

    logistically it just can't happen if lockdown is extended. I posted earlier that even a conservative extension to end of August could MAYBE see crowds by the Prelim. But the AFL would rather just create a hub.

    If lockdowns ends next Thursday and things stay clean for the first [censored] time in 6 months then it is reasonable to assume that crowds at finals may be a possibility by week one. That would be two weeks beyond the end of lockdown. Conservative approach suggests week 2. 

    How utterly devastating for this city to once again have no finals.

    The problem is 2022 might be another 2019. Or 1999. Or 2001. We've gotta strike while the iron is hot. Hard to win premierships.

    Do you expect me to happy about missing a potential grand final and premiership after going week in week out to see Melbourne play since 1990, including fronting up every week, to the Neeld days of 2012 and 2013. All the while dreaming of seeing the boys hold the cup live at the home of football, but at the same time thinking that it would never happen.

    Add in the continuous lockdowns that Victorians have suffered (a few more than your side of the country) it would’ve been nice to enjoy a finals series at the MCG.

    So I make no apologies to you for how I’m feeling on this topic.

    Me too dc. There is close to zero chance we would get into the G if it is played there and interstate zero chance. Just win the bloody thing…. Anywhere!

    Even at the G there will not be 100% attendance. Do you have a guaranteed seat? If not you will be home in the lounge wherever it is played.

    Based n the last few months there is plenty of time for the next lockdown. Let’s hope it is early October because there will be lock down 7.

    Id back myself in with 2 seperate memberships that guarantee GF tickets ordinarily.

    The money from the grand final goes to the AFL, who need to recoup lost revenue.

    Any border clampdown is to try and prevent COVID getting into the state and the flow on negative impact to the WA economy 

    He doesn’t expect many attendees, that’s not hard to fathom, 7 to 8 day turn around to knowing your team has made the GF and booking flights/obtaining tickets and accommodation. Flights and accomodation will be at a premium as they always are for Grand Finals. That goes without travel restrictions being considered 

    The players have continually said they prefer playing in front of crowds.

    Cant actually believe supporters are actually saying I’d rather wait for the Dees to win a flag next year at the G, so I can be there. Talk about self centred.

    Similar things were said last year, when we were travelling well.FCS there are no guarantees with this pandemic.

    If we can win one this year I’m taking it, whether it be at the G, Gabba, AO or Optus. But I want to see the Dees win it in front of the biggest crowd possible and I’m sure the players would want to win it in front of a full house given the option

    Agree if it is in WA and we are in it I hope you get to go and see them win it. I will enjoy the fact WA supporters like you are having a great time.

    But it looks like it will be elsewhere and the sooner some of us (i.e - me)  come to terms with it the better.

    wanting a boycott by supporters if they imposed vaccination certificate for a GF and you due to age weren’t going to have sufficient time to get the Pfizer vaccine, but you chose not to get the A-Z - that was your choice 

    Wanting the team not to win it this year if YOU can’t get there, in the hope we get back again next year and it’s at the G

    I have a Dees supporting mate who was born in 65, followed us at the G and across all other grounds through the dark days of the 70s, 80s and through the Neeld years. He wants nothing more than to see a Flag, he’s been fighting a terminal illness for 18 months and is just hanging in there. He’s a fighter and will be lucky to see Christmas let alone next September.

    So pardon me if I pull you up and calling you out on it being all on your terms

    I used to travel all over the suburbs and Geelong (wouldn't get there until half time) from the late 60's through 70's by train, walk, tram...Vic Park, Windy Hill etc...some really dark days there.

    I don't care where we play so long as we win it...if this is the year I will be ecstatic.

    If it's in Perth I will be ecstatic, if it's on the moon, I will be over the moon.

    I just want to see one, I don't have to be there, it would be nice but it's not as nice as winning.

    I was at the '88 loss by the way, wouldn't wish that on anyone.

    Firstly, please quote where I said “I don’t want to win the flag this year”. You’re putting words in my mouth.

    Secondly, I have the first dose of the AZ so not sure where you got that one from.

    Fourthly,  I’ve got two seperate memberships valued at $1,600 that guarantee me GF tickets so pardon me for being a little disappointed if I’m not being able to attend.

    Correct. But there is still the small problem of making it. It might be a subject we forget about very quickly.

    Think of the many older fans who’ve been waiting a lot longer for a flag than 1990, some of whom might not even be around next year. RDB is getting on, as are the other remaining champions from that era, and the Rev is on borrowed time. 

    Besides, bird in the hand and all that. This is our season and I don’t care if we have to play on the moon to win it.

    I agree. Flags are rare. This might never come around again. If we can win one I would be over the moon, even if I’m not there to watch it in person. 
    I will however acknowledge that if we don’t make the grand final or we lose the grand final and it isn’t being played at the G with crowds, then I think it would somewhat soften the blow.

    I said quite comfortable in a respectable prelim loss. Quite comfortable does not mean happy. Me Happy would be winning a flag.

    Keep in mind that we finished outside the 8 last year and a top 4 finish would’ve been a fantastic proposition if you were given that in March 2021.

    A 3rd or 4th place finish with a gusty prelim performance would be a terrific achievement and an excellent stepping stone to greater things going forward given our brilliant list profile.

    I certainly take your point about RDB, the Rev and our older folks.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
