I’ve had a bit more of a think about it and as much as I’m disappointed for Jonesy, I’ve come to terms with it more. Melksham might be lazy at times, but he’s usually good for a goal or two and can be damaging with limited possessions.

I imagine dropping Nate would’ve been done with as much respect as possible, and he’s not done yet. He’ll be playing a leadership role at Casey and be telling the younger lads to stay on their toes or else he’ll be ready to step up.

Not that it will matter for this game but I think we need to bring in another mid for rotations now Jones is out, Kade Chandler and Sparrow both seem to be up and about in the game on Friday I’d like to see one of them brought in for a Fwd as we seem to have one to many, as many have said first out for mine is Melksham but I’m sure Goodwin will probably drop 21 other players before him so who knows.

Last 2 rounds combined. It’s pretty clear cut.

Jones  24 possessions 6 score involvements 13 pressure acts

Melksham 22 possessions 11 score involvements 24 pressure acts

He was rightly carried to 300 and I doubt he will get back in unless as sub.

Fair play.

Did you really think milkshake would get dropped?

Was hoping but it seems old habits die hard.

Is he in the 23? The pic in the OP just has him listed as one of the four emergencies (along with Jones, Baker and Petty). We don’t know the 23rd player yet.

I was looking at the AFL site on my phone. Initially they had 5 interchange for each team.

Chandler is not in the 23 he played in the 2's Baker and Petty make up the 24 going to Tassie.

It was from the AFL site ,which initially listed 5 interchange players for each team.

I shouldn't believe anything the AFL says.

I don’t care about the optics, it was obvious we were shepherding Jones through, and any club who reckons they wouldn’t do the same are full of it.

One or two games yes, but if we gifted him an entire season to carry him to 300 I would be dissapointed in the professionalism of the club... Nothing against Jones, he is an absolute legend of the club!

I’ve also heard this morning that Viney out with a 4 week injury -  hoping it’s not his foot again!

Jonesy needs to win back that 'yard of pace' that he's lost.

Age waits for no one but with the help of lots of sprint training he might just get that yard back

He'll never be as nippy as he once was (and that was his strength) but he could get a bit of nip back through sheer hard work

His skills are fine and his endurance is ok as well.

It's the pace of the game

I truly hope he gets his form back and gets back into the team

If not, it's been a damn fine career.  300 games is some sort of achievement

Something smaller....his toe.  Ye old toe turf?

I will never understand why we gave Viney a 5 year contract when he hasn’t had an injury free season in forever and has had foot issues for years.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
