Goodwin is probably our highest % winning coach since Norm Smith. I used probably because I dont really know.

I like the lineage from Blight, Barassi to Smith.

Blight has said in the past that he his coaching was definitely influenced indirectly by Norm Smith due to the Barassi connection.

The game has obviously changed a lot but I would like to think that something has been past down.

Side Note: Many of the younger crew may not have realised how much of a gun Goody was for the crows. Super fit, tough and skilled. His first 2 years = 2 flags iirc.

He's our 7th highest winning coach percentage wise of all time.

The 3rd highest since Norm Smith, after Daniher and Northey.

Edit - Actually, he potentially has overtaken Daniher as the numbers I saw are a few weeks old. Quite likely Goody (who I think is now 50.57%) has moved into second behind Northey (54.19%).

For a vast majority of Goodwin's playing days his senior coach was Mark Williams.

I always find it interesting to trace the coaches back to who their main coaches were during playing days.

It may be that by getting Williams in at this stage has allowed Goodwin to re-set and clarify his direction.

Interesting.  So at which Club exactly did Williams coach Goodwin ?

Funny, I knew it was not right when I was typing it but did not check. Changed it now. Thank you.

Williams coached Port Adelaide. Goodwin played for the Crows. I'm confused by the so-called connection you're referring to?...

Goodwin's 46 losses and 43 wins put him just a couple of wins short of passing Northey and Ivor Warne-Smith.

A little jump above that to get there, but it is all premiership coaches.

Just adding an extra thought about successions; there is a neat link from Jones to playing in Neitz's 300th to Neitz playing with Jim Stynes at his peak and Stynes playing with Robert Flower.

Is it ridiculous to then connect Flower playing with Stan Alves (the man with the unluckiest timing in football) who just briefly played with several of the greats of the greatest era, but it seems the chain breaks there because really, it should be Barassi.  It should be Barassi.

If you count finals then Goody is 48 and 44 with us.

I dont know what protocol is  but surely finals games should be counted.

Au contraire (eventually!); he was one of those lucky few able to turn that fleeting '10-year rule' into a premiership (North Melbourne in the mid-'70s thus providing me a 'second team' to get interested about)

No other coach in the last 55 or 56 years has accomplished what Goodwin and the team have achieved so far this year

it’s quite remarkable really - not since, arguably our best ever coach - norm smith, have we started a season like this

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
