What would be ironic if Weed leaves year's end , he goes to Norf and we get a number one draft pick who happens to be an injury free Rowell or another Petracca. On top of it the Weed ends up like Tyson. ( TYson who you may say ).

How will we get a number one draft pick in this scenario?

Is Tom Sparrow just Jack Viney with footy IQ?

Spot on he just not a rugby player.

Weidemann was very good and did all the team things.  He could have easily kicked 7 if he was more selfish.

He'll play - but let's see him play more and more footy consistently.  He is so clearly far too good for this level though.

It can't be good for his long term development to keep beating up on part time footballers.

Tmac has surprised everyone with his form this year. He has been excellent. If Bbb and Sw were right to go from r1 there is the chance that Tom may have not played.

I believe Tom has been back to his best . At his best he is one of top forwards going around. Hes only 27 so has a few years left in him.

L. Jackson has reached new heights and made it a double whammy.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out this weekend.

Unfortunately someone is going to have to sit in the stands each week as we cant have all four play.

It is a great insurance against injuries and poor form.

Yet if nobodys injured and they all play well then its going to be strange and a trade may arise.

I hope not. I get feeling SW is going to be a big star.

From left field if May or Lever were injured, Tom is as proven quality backman and not out of the realm he goes back there.

Had a look at the replay on Kayo.  The biggest conclusion we can draw is that North are in real trouble.  The lack of any sort of depth is strongly reminiscent of us at our worst half a dozen years ago.  They have nothing in their key positions, but that's ok because they have almost nothing in the  middle as well and most of that is nearing the end of their careers.

For our side, congratulations on whoever it was talking up Deakyn Smith during the off-season.  He looks to be a very nice prospect.  Give him a year or two to build his body and I could see him in the senior side.  Sparrow delivers beautifully to the forwards and seems to work well with the Weed, who is of course dominating at VFL level.  I get why they put Brown in for this week, but Weed is very stiff to be left out.

Really though, there's to much you can take out of a game like that.  They were that bad and we were professional and well-organised and took them apart.

So when do Casey play v North? With the AFL match in Hobart I wouldn't mind getting along to the VFL.

Last night.

I  have a feeling Norf will put us out of form. We will win comfortably but play not as well as I would like.

I'm not overly concerned right now. We're 30% into the season. What we need to do is just keep winning. It's important especially to make sure we beat the teams we should beat like North Melbourne  We can worry about form heading into the finals, once we've made it.

Tom McDonald won't we going back unless we have major backline injuries. When Steven May was out injured/concussed they brought Harry Petty in which they'll do again if needed. Unless 2 out of May/Lever/Tomlinson are out TMac won't be going back and probably not even then. He could go on the wing with Brayshaw replacing James Jordon or Nathan Jones.

Agreed but its good that if May and Lever went down, Tom could replace one of them.

He was always an excellent defender.

And we certainly have enough tall fwds to replace him.

Would love to see him on the wing as a roving back man and chf player.

If Lever and May went down, you would have Petty replace Lever and have Tomlinson roll into Mays role, Hibbard play last line ( in Tomlinson’s spot) and bring in Jetta as well as Petty...

... before you’d have TMac go to the backline again. Take him too long to relearn their system.

The new look VFL with its 22 teams is beginning to look lopsided and problematic. The fact that each team plays 16 matches and therefore won’t play 5 of the other teams during the regular season could lead to inequities when it comes to deciding the finals.

This is not the ideal competition.

Actually more like a dog’s dinner.
Who made this call?  AFL or VFL, or the mighty $$$? Or FOX?
The talent pool is just spread way too thin, and to have guys who have an actual real job being expected to fly interstate regularly is just not on.

Your last point is a good one. I hadn't really thought about that aspect. Someone else mentioned that it's tough programming Thursday (or even Friday) night games for non-professionals for the same reason. Another tough thing for VFL players affiliated with AFL clubs is not being able to play regularly. There's 43 players on Melbourne's AFL list and 30 in Casey's VFL squad but, even with 6 Melbourne players injured and 3 kept in reserve for Sunday in case of injuries and/or as a potential Melbourne sub, 12 AFL-listed players played for Casey. Doesn't leave much space for Casey players.

Now Tomlinson has gone down long-term we need a ling-term replacement. Harry Petty or should we bite the bullet and keep T-Mac down there so we can bring Weideman in?

Petty would be my preference, simply because he’s trained all preseason with the defensive unit, and deserves a crack.

TMac has been good forward and ok pitch hitting down back, I’d leave him further up the ground.

Well, Petty did get a crack when May was out for a week, but I agree once the decision has been made we need to stick with whoever is chosen medium to long-term.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
