drdrake 3,203 Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 (edited) Don't get to hung up on the length of the contract, the way trading is these days a contract doesn't mean much. If a club or a players wants out and another club wants him the trade gets done. Glad to see him stay. It will make for an interesting trade week, I reckon if a club came knocking with the right deal for Brayshaw the club would entertain it. Would need to be a top 5 pick at least with something else kicked in like future second or third round. Edited October 7, 2020 by drdrake Quote

As I put up his stats for the year previously compared to Oliver in fact I would say his year was nowhere near a 3 rd in B&F ! Go on check his stats for yourself. I and other rated Oliver as easily 3rd in B & F. 2 years would have been enough with clear trigger for a third. 5 years for Viney? Unbelievable! Totally agree with Oliver, don’t blame him for being [censored] off with 5th, he was top 3 every day of the week Viney has the runs on the board for a 3 year contract & had a better 2020 than you give him credit for Stats aren’t the be all & end all of a players performance, you know better than that Pickett Quote
Nicko 1,390 Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Has anyone seen a statement from Viney following his resigning? if not is it strange that he hasn’t said anything publicly yet? Quote

Posted on his Insta. So did his wife. That is about as much as you'll get from 26 year olds these days. Quote

Is he worth a five contract probably not. But and it is a big but he is a Viney, previous captain and a current vice captain. Who played his heart when we could not beat time with a stick. If he had walked I suggest a large number of members would have walked as well. There is IMO more to his signature than just his playing ability. I'm generally not a fan of five year contracts. However, in this instance I could see that the longer contract term is compensation for losing the captaincy. It would have been ego-deflating for someone so (relatively) young to have the captaincy taken away. Many players in his situation may have considered leaving to go somewhere where they felt more wanted. The five year offer might have been offered as a sweetener way back when the removal of the captaincy was "negotiated". 1 Quote

We are worse of than I first thought! 2 Quote

Interesting no love whatsoever from his teammates on insta? When all the other guys re-signed last week, a fair few players shared insta stories and were celebrating. Yet nothing on Jack from the players...... Quote
Pates 9,697 Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 I don't think some people would realise the optics of Jack leaving the club and how much of a negative impact it would have on the playing group. I'm not saying that that put him in a position of "pay me everything" but look at how bad it looks for Essendon that Daniher is leaving them, it just looks ugly. I'm really happy that we have Jack long term, his best can be absolutely brilliant but there are lots of things he needs to work on and I'm sure he knows that better than us. Looking forward to watching him out on the G again, crashing in with no regard for himself and always doing the team thing. 1 Quote

Interesting to compare my view (above) with suggestions elsewhere (see Bombers Implode thread) that Zac Merrett wants out of Essendon because he lost the vice-captaincy. Quote
