Particularly in the first half his second and third efforts were pivotal tonight.
With another preseason and more strength he could be a star.
Certainly reads the fall of the ball well, and you cannot teach that.

You can't train fast hand and evasion out if traffic. Or high marks a la Liam Ryan. Pickett has that innate ABILITY. Whether he becomes great or OK will be coaching and experience. Kinda wish he spent this year in the 2's learning the ropes. As MFC way is to put into deep end too early like J Watts.

If he went to Hawthorn you'd see him next v year for sure.

Tonight was just a real glimpse of what to expect in the future. All the morons who expect this performance every week are kidding themselves. He's still a developing kid who is always going to have inconsistency in his game. In fact he will for the next 50 to 70 games of his career.

Olisik and the rest of the haters on here can [censored] right off for good.

what are u talking about? he missed 2 simple shots, 1 hard shot and his only goal was from the goal square. he didn't provide any forward pressure that I noticed.

comparing him to Liam Ryan is embarassing. Ryan has composure and actually takes his marks. he also keep his feet and has football IQ. Pickett has shown no footy IQ so far and you can't assume he will improve in this area.

Critical part of that post.

truth hurts. Let me guess, you're an Oscar McDonald fan?

Picket setup that goal in the 2nd quarter from his forward pass outside the traffic to Vanders. Our normal mids would have handballed it 40cm to a player in trouble. That's footy IQ.

You need to understand that forward pressure is not just tackling.

We missed him against Freo...

Well no he had 10 pressure acts. So you're wrong.

No not an Oscar fan. Been wanting him delisted since 2017. But this isn't about him.

It’s almost as if these so called melbourne supporters want our players to be [censored] so that they can be right and feel better about saying how bad they are.

he is in his first year and has a long way to go, but if you can’t see his upside, you are a very poor judge of a footballer.

and comparing him to a mid is just stupid. Of course a mid will get more touches. We might as well compare him to a defender and say he doesn’t spoil as much as them!

Reminds me a lot of Lewis Jetta, couldn't buy a goal early in his career. Panicked and rushed every time he had ball in hand, but once he got more composed really shone

Oh of course.

Pickett will put in a quiet performance next week and fktards like @olisik will pop on here and demand he get delisted.

He'll get there.

His upside is enormous, but people need to have some patience because like all small forwards early in their career, he'll have quiet games here and there.

He's kicked 7.12 this year, so he's actually hitting the scoreboard. Turn half those behinds into goals and we'd be lauding what a brilliant first year he's had.

Being negative means you're right far more often than you're wrong (true for supporters of all clubs in all sports).

It's why being optimistic is so hard. Negative people can set the bar as high as a premiership and be right any time we don't win the flag.

It's that on a smaller level that applies to situations like this. If you're negative about the trade, and Pickett doesn't end up being a 200-game premiership player for us, you can one day declare yourself "correct". If he does end up a star, who cares, the rest of us will be too busy enjoying that to remember.

Totally agree. People forget he is a first year player, but what he has already shown is super exciting. Yes he has had quiet games, but that’s expected.

With a few more years under his belt, I can see this kid becoming a star of the competition.

In my opinion, we nailed the draft. Jackson, Pickett and Rivers are all going to be guns.

and anyone comparing him to ryan, can at least say he shows traits that ryan has, but those who totally downplay that and say ryan is a star (which he is) and kozzie is nothing like him must also Realise ryan played 2 full year of WAFL football before being drafted. Kozzie has played 10 or so games. Give him time. I think he will be a star.

Fans are negative for a reason. I've said this before but remember when everyone on demonland thought Bate was the next Pavlich, Tapscott was the next Hurn, Watts the next Riewoldt, Sylvia the next Voss, Strauss the next Lindsay Gilbee, cale morton a next gen player. The list goes on and on and on. And when they're delisted or traded no-one on demonland ever goes back to analyse why they didn't succeed or concede that their bias got in their way of analysing the player.

So that's why I personally am so sick and tired of people hyping young players because we've heard it all before, time and time again.

No one is hyping him up Dr. He shows great traits that reminds you of the Cyrils, Betts of the world. Doesn't mean we are saying he'll be the next one of them. He'll be the next Kozzy Pickett because he he's got his own unique talent as well.

But we are also entitled to celebrate the glimpses that Rivers, Pickett and Jackson have shown.

The world is miserable enough as it is. Just enjoy the the small things while we can.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
