My one word analysis of the Pies game - PLEASING

PLEASING - To beat this mob anytime, any place any how.

PLEASING - To win three in a row is such convincing fashion.

PLEASING - to see Spargo snag a few with good positioning and movement. He also looks to have benefited physically from a good pre-season

PLEASING - to beat this team by 10 goals

PLEASING - to see a full 4 quarter performance from the team

PLEASING - to see a good even performance from the midfield.

PLEASING - to see Sparrow develop very well and look at home in a top class midfield

PLEASING - to watch Preuss' performance in the absence of Max

PLEASINGĀ PLEASINGĀ Ā PLEASING

Ā

One other PLEASING aspect to the broadcast of the game was the vision of the rest of the list's reaction to the win and the smiles and cheering from the race. they look like a happy mob.

Coaches votes are in:

6Ā  Ed Langdon (MELB)
6Ā  Clayton Oliver (MELB)
6Ā  Angus Brayshaw (MELB)
4Ā  Christian Petracca (MELB)
3Ā Ā Steele Sidebottom (COLL)
3 Taylor Adams (COLL)
2 Charlie Spargo (MELB)
Ā
WOW.Ā  Big difference in view of the coaches!Ā  Best guess split:
5/1, 5/1, 4/2 for either Langdon/Oliver/Brayshaw
4 for Petracca
3 for Sidebottom
3 for Adams
2 for Spargo
Langdon, Oliver and Brayshaw the only ones to get votes from both coaches.Ā  But coaches had a very different view on who was best or second best on the ground.Ā  Or 3rd best or 4th best or 5th best...
Ā

That'sĀ as big a disparity as we have seen I suspect

Ā

Watching just the highlights and I'm embarrassed by the favouritism we received from the umpires. It's not the first time I've said that vs. Collingwood. Strange. But I don't know how you could live with yourself being a West Coast fan. Also Spargo everywhere.Ā

Watching the actual replay and Lockhart has a long way to go still. Love his endeavour but he was out-positioned or -manoeuvred on multiple occasions and cost us in my opinion at least half the Pies' goals. Still happy for him to stay there. Or get Rivers in.Ā

I liked this too, kudos to the broadcast for that.

I think that was also Gary Pert in with the players at the end of the game.

Good look that he was not with the corporates.

Showing his support to the team.Ā Emotionally Intelligent, well done, especially after his spray.Ā Ā

Agree. So often It's the exact opposite.

Langdon was good but I certainly didnt think that good. OliverĀ has being awesome with his disposal the last 3 games. Now playing very clever footy. Gus has done a 360 and showing what we hoped he would. Definately found his calling in the middle. Trac going from strength to strength. Midfield is back to being rightly feared. Spargo puts in 110%.

Langdon is now consisently very good because he is using his tank to burn off opponents and becomes a sole target and/or outlet player.Ā  It looks like he's doing it easy but its not his fault his opponentn can't keep with him.

One of my favourite players now.

Couldn't agree more 17

The number of times this year he has been on his own, screaming for the ball, has been amazing. He seems to, until recently,to have been largely ignored by the midfielders

He made a huge difference to our connectivness and cohesiveness.

Brtlett was the one who gave the spray not Pert. Was good to see him there tho I agree, was sitting on the bench during the game as well, nice to see him get a win against his old mob.

The ol' 'good cop, bad cop' routine... ?

He's 24 and played 79 games!!!! His best years are ahead and hopefully all going to be at the Dees!

Keep it in mind he did it against Philips I think who has been an outstanding wingman for a few years.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.Ā

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
